[ACK] RC 2 - are these messages correct? Misleading?

I saw notice RC2 was out. I did an "Update now". Yellow bar appears pretty quickly, download begins, completes.

Then, the yellow bar says "Preparing Library." There were no resources downloaded, what does that mean?

Then on the right side it says x 14 Resources updated." These were actually 14 resources that downloaded earlier today, 14 journals, without issue. I had turned off the 14 resources updated message, so it came back on. There were NOT any resources tht had just downloaded (I verified this later after a restart too).

At this point, there is no notification that there is a software update to be installed, or anything needs to be done or happened. How would I Know? I restarted and it updated to the new RC 2.

I find these messages very non-intuitive and misleading.

This might be a one-off as a couple of notification issues were being fixed i.e. I got the update notification. Is the new update listed when you go to Home Page?

Yes - RC 1 it was not, but now it says "Installed 6.3" immediately to the left of my account name on the top right side, if that's what you mean.

The message indicates that the application is checking the folder containing the installed resources to see if anything has been added or removed, and if so, it does a variety of things to allow the rest of the application to see those changes.

If you are concerned, you can search your log file for the following line, which will indicate why this is being displayed:
"Adding job to DiscoveryUpdateStage queue:"

If you see 'Discovery' at the end of the line, it indicates that something other than a resource update triggered the check. This happens at application startup (in case the application was shutdown in the middle of previous updating), after hiding/unhiding resources, and possibly in other places.

When the application has installed a new version and needs to be restarted, you should see a notification icon in the upper right corner of the application (left of the double-arrow sync icon, which is next to the Layouts menu). In RC 2 or later it's a blue circle icon with a number in the middle. Hovering over that with your mouse will direct you to restart the application.

I have not been able to reproduce this behavior on Windows. (Are you running Windows or Mac?) I did make a case for a notification issue, though:

During the download, a notification icon is displayed; hovering over it shows the download progress.
When the download is complete, Logos installs the update in the background. During this phase, the notification icon goes away. There should be a notification that says, "Preparing library..." on hover.
After the application update is installed and ready to go, the notification icon is displayed once again; hovering over it shows the text, "An update is ready to be installed." Clicking the icon displays the text, "An update is ready to be installed. It will be applied when the application is restarted."

I find these messages very non-intuitive and misleading.

Your experience is certainly not the desired behavior. Hopefully we'll be able to track it down. The next time there's an update, if you could get us the Logos.log file generated during the download and update (but before you restart Logos), it may have some useful information.

OK, will do. Bryan I suspect this is all tied to the 4 resources that are causing my, and other installs to continually report that there are "Resources are ready to be added to your library". I know that is being worked on and might have an update this week. If so, it will be interesting to see how smoothly the messages are after that. I will save the log files if there is an RC3 to try.
