Collaboration methodology?

Hello - I've set up a Faithlife group to attempt to collaborate and see "group notes" on different resources we are reading. It seems that in order to see the notes from other people, I have to specifically duplicate the note file in order for their annotations and highlights to show up in the resources for my desktop application. I recognize annotations can be shared through the "add community note" -- but what about sharing things like highlights?

Also, can document files that I already own (like highlighters) be shared in a collaborative way?

How does this work for Faithlife?

There are two ways of going about notes. You can collaborate on a document OR you can use the community notes feature. Both have pros and cons. Community notes require online connectivity to use at all, native notes require everyone to have the document.

the highlights are notes in the Logos universe (can't be added as community notes).

Yes, you can share a notes document and this will share the highlights in that document. (You may want to call it "group highlights" to avoid confusion)

Is there any way to share highlighting dynamically? In other words, I'd like to create a collaboration on a document where it is not necessary to constantly go back to the documents on the Faithlife site to "redownload" a fresh copy to get new highlights...is there a way to automate sharing of highlights so that the desktop application will automatically pull new highlights and notes and put them into the correct reference in the library?

No - it is something which the individual user needs to do to pull them down - but it is an interesting idea[Y]

Yes! There are two kinds of ways to share a Logos highlights. All highlights are stored in Logos notes documents. If a document is "Collaborated", everyone can edit the document and automatically gets new notes and highlights added to that document. If the document is "Published", everyone can get a copy of the document, but users must click "Update" to get the latest copy of that document - it doesn't happen automatically.

Visiting documents.logos.com is the simplest way to collaborate a notes document with a group. Click on your document, and from the actions menu, click "Collaborate". All other people need to do is just "Connect" to the document via Faithlife or documents.logos.com.

I must be missing something, then. A friend posted a document with several highlights that I can see from the documents.logos.com. I've connected to the document through the faithlife group, but the highlights are not showing up in my references.

Visual filters are set (Faithlife checked, the specific document is checked). Nothing shows up for Scriptures where I know highlighting exists (since I can see it on the Faithlife site.)

What am I missing?

It depends if the document was Published or Collaborated. Do you know?

If you open the document from the documents menu in Logos, can you see the highlights there?

Dustin, I tried this and at first the document wasn't showing up....restarting Logos ended up doing the trick, and now the highlights are appearing.

Is there a way for me to direct where a new highlight goes by default? i.e. if I use the highlighting toolbar, how can I direct which note file the highlight shows up in?
