NICOT/NICNT Information

Ok with a little of studying, I am considering purchasing the NICOT & NICNT. My question is it appears this commentary does not cover every book in the bible. Is this true or am I missing something? Finally; from the posts I have read this is still the commentary of choice even with missing books. Your thoughts!

Without double checking, I think all of the NT is represented, with some of the OT not completed.

The NICOT features 22 volumes of detailed commentary covering 25 of the 39 books of the Old Testament.

The NICNT features 18 volumes of first-rate commentaries covering 25 of the 27 books of the New Testament Scriptures (everything except for 2 Peter and Jude)

"Commentary of choice" Well I don't know - I guess it depends on your choice. I was able to get NIC at the early prepub price and I am grateful for that, I have also gotten in on the early pre-pubs for WBC and ICC.

Between these three commentary sets (wish I had Hermenia too) I have a very good group of commentaries outside of the base collections. NIC is expensive, there's no getting around it. But if you have the ability I think you'll find it a worthwhile investment.

First off, this is a great set of commentaries, and is highly valued. That being said you must realize any modern up to date set is probably incomplete. For instance currently you have the Baker Exegetical, Pillar, ICC, WBC, Hermenia, NIGTC, Anchor Bible and many others that are incomplete. Some of these sets were started decades ago! for instance there are three Pillar commentaries on prepub right now.

The missing volumes (which aren't available in print yet either) are:

See bestcommentaries.com for when these volumes are expected out in print form. I expect Logos will cut a deal with Eerdmans to get the remaining volumes in digital format once they are available. Hopefully there will be some sort of upgrade available for those who already bought the series, as buying the remaining volumes individually would be even more pricey.

NICOT/NICNT has a very good reputation though not all volumes are of the same quality. D.A. Carson's New Testament Commentary Survey gives reviews of various volumes. Tremper Longman's corresponding Old Testament Commentary Survey isn't available in Logos format. Also bestcommentaries.com has reader ratings and reviews and isn't limited to whatever was already published before Carson & Longman's books came out.

Thanks for replying! This set is very close to being complete and from what I have read it is one of the best. Seeing as I missed the prepub for this and ICC this will be a big expense for me. With the NICOT/NICNT selling for 1599.95 and the ICC selling for 1750.00 I just can't sell any more plasma as I am already low since the purchases I made during the Christmas holidays!

I have been hoping for that series to get to Logos for many years and I am very happy we have it. I never hesitated about that purchase and am glad I decided to get it. I believe it is worth of every single dollar. On the other hand WBC is also very good. Both are incomplete of course.

Thanks for the suggestion however I received a call today from Jared who is in sales and it appears he read the thread. So we worked out a great deal so I picked up the NICOT/NICNT & Tyndale commentaries at a very resonable price. I also wanted the ICC but will wait for another time.

I worked in Christian publishing for over 20 years. I remember seeing the projected completion dates for NICNT volumes from the Eerdmans rep in the early 70's. Most dates were missed by many years.

Many of the early volumes have been replaced with better volumes to maintain the quality level that has been established over the years.

Here's a resource (http://www.amazon.com/Annotated-Biblical-Resources-Hendrickson-Publishers/dp/1565637232/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275674915&sr=8-1) that I have used to determine the "choice" commentaries for me. (I question whether I should include the link, however, since it is not available on logos, I guess it is OK.) What David Bauer does is include an annotated list of ministry resources. For many resources, he gives a synopsis of how it is setup and what information can be gleaned from each resource. It is a must have, IMHO.

Talk to a Logos sales person. They might get you a little better price - a few hundred dollars off, and they do offer the NICOT/NICNT on the payment plan. That is what I did.
