I am trying to find all the Periphrastic Constructions in the GNT and have used the morphology search query "lemma:εἰμί@V????P" to find all the 'to be' verbs + participles in NA27 w/ GRAMCORD. I get 160 results in 155 verses. I was expecting to see Eph 2:8 (e.g. "you have been saved") in the results as a perfect participle, but its not listed. Eph 2:1,4,5,13,20 are listed.
- Surface: "you have been"
- MSS: ἐστε
- Lemma: εἰμί
- Morph: VPAI2P (Verb, Present, Active, Indicative, 2nd Person, Plural)
- Surface: "saved"
- MSS: σεσῳσμένοι
- Lemma: σῴζω
- Morph: VRPP-PNM (Verb, Perfect, Passive, Participle, Plural, Nominative, Masculine)
When I try the same search in ESV ("lemma:εἰμί@V??P) "I get 173 results in 166 verse, but still not Eph 2:8. In the "Analysis" tab, I've noticed there are two occurrences of the Imperative mood, 2 Infinitives, 10 Indicatives, and the rest actual Participles. In the Tense column, there is one occurrence of Future, four imperfects, and all the rest are Present. Its not clear why I'm seeing this anomaly missing Eph 2:8 and all Perfects.
When I then try to search for just Perfect Particles in (lemma:εἰμί@VR?P), I get 13 results in 13 verses but Eph 2:8 is still not listed.
When I try the search in NA27 (lemma:εἰμί@V??R?P), I get 0 results.
Is it "operator error" or a bug?
Thanks for your help.
