I thought I could do this, but apparently not!!

I want to search all resources for: "Author:X"

I want to have it hit ALL the text attributed to that author, not just his name at the end of the article.

In case this seems opaque, let me explain what I wish to accomplish. I occasionally come across an article in a reference work which I deem heretical. The reference work as a whole, however, is valuable to me so it's not an option to "hide" the entire resource. I wish to apply a visual filter on every word by that author to alert me that a certain viewpoint is potentially being taken.

"author:X" finds the word "X" where it occurs in a field named "author"; it doesn't find all text that's tagged as being authored by "X". That tagging doesn't currently exist (at least not in any format that's usable by visual filters).

Someone else might have a better idea, but the only way I can think of to do this is to apply a highlight to the passage in question. (You could even devise a labelling scheme to enable future searches such as {Label Author WHERE Name = "X"}, etc.) This doesn't find other text by that author, but lets you tag them as you find it.

Thanks for your reply Bradley. I did create a highlighting style with labels for the type of 'heresy,' but I was wanting to create a VF that would give me a warning flag the next time I'm reading that particular author (perhaps without realizing/remembering who he/she is). I guess I assumed that since copy/paste correctly identifies the author, then there is apparently some type of tagging (which I was hoping could be used in a VF). I don't guess there's some workaround such as identifying the text AFTER text type:heading AND BEFORE author:X, is there?

I'm curious as to the reason you would find it necessary to label things you consider heretical and to even consider hiding some. Are you so insecure that you can't use them without a crutch to warn you off? It reminds me of some of the immature college kids today who want "free speech zones" (so they can avoid them) and "trigger warnings." I suggest acquiring a little maturity.

I've long ago labelled authors that are anti-women (eg Tertullian, etc), so I can remember to not remember them.

You don't guess correctly.

Library filters like author or type won't work in Searches nor Visual Filters even if all resources have those as a Search Field e.g. you can do a Basic Search for author:martin but it won't highlight the text of the article (BEFORE & AFTER will only locate/highlight the text "martin" relative to other text).

Yes, there is citation metadata (for copy/paste), but it's not integrated with the search engine (i.e., visual filters) in any way. We've had some ideas internally about integrating these more; thanks for the reminder!

Ok, I've added metadata/search engine integration to my list of improvement ideas (linked in my signature). You can find it under the Visual Filters section. This would be really useful for being able to search within the Church Fathers collections within the writings of a certain author.

Same thing with Journals - search through different Journals, but only within articles by such and such a person.

In a perfect world, you might even be able to have a view or option within the Library that you could turn on or off, that would allow you see those articles within journals, books within books, etc. as separate entries within your Library, thus allowing you to create collections, etc. off of them.
