[resolved] Bug: Missing .mstidx files?

I think I should have .mstidx files for all resources that have a milestone or headword index. But I'm missing several.

For example, I don't have .mstidx files for Lightfoot’s Apostolic Fathers in English (LLS:APFTHLFTENG), or The Apostolic Fathers in English (LLS:APFTHTEXT), both of which have milestones indexes.

I tried reindexing LLS:APFTHLFTENG, but that didn't generate an .mstidx file. Attached is the log of the reindex.

Is the a symptom of a bug, or have I misunderstood how .mstidx files work?

.mstidx files are no longer necessary with newer resources (compiled since approximately October last year).

I tried reindexing LLS:APFTHLFTENG, but that didn't generate an .mstidx file.

FYI, indexing has never generated them. (Although they have the same "milestone index", they have nothing to do with Library indexing.)

Oh. That's a shame. I was still hoping that one day you might merge all the .mstidx files into one super-fast lookup index.

Would it be foolishly optimistic to think that you're moving towards using index.lxn and index.idx to do super-fast, accurate lookups in the future? [;)]

It's not optimistic so much as confused? Those files are part of the full-text search engine which is a completely different subsystem and has no relation to milestone lookup (KeyLinking).

I know that historically those files are part of the full-text search. But since L6, they've stored milestone data in a similar way to the .mstidx files, and could potentially store headwords too.

The reason I asked is that I hoped the deprecation of the .mstidx files heralded a forthcoming optimisation, and given that the deprecation of the files coincided roughly with adding of milestones to the main index, that increased my hope somewhat.

The reason it matters is because there's currently two ways that look ups are being done: slow and accurate (e.g. context menu, new tab), or fast but approximate (e.g. parallel resource menu, commentaries in the PG). Both are frustrating. I can't see how that can improve without creating a single headword/milestone index, and the merging of the .mstidx files seemed the best bet. Now they're deprecated, that hope is fading fast.
