[resolved] What does a "Solid Color" note mean?

I am new to Logos--my family just bought it for me.

When I try to add a note, it is calling it a "Solid Color" note. What is that? Are there other options and what does it mean to begin with?

I simply want to add notes (to references, not selections--I've figured that much out) as if I were writing notes in the margins of a regular Bible.

I <think> what you are talking about is that the current default note document location for HIGHLIGHTS is a "palette specific" note document. If you use a highlighter from the "Solid Color" palette, it will create a note document called "Solid Color" (if need be) and place the highlight note in that document.

You are obviously not talking about highlighting notes, but here is what is likely going on... You are adding notes to a resource, and the menu is showing you the name of either 1) the last used document or 2) the currently open document.

It isnt quite that simple... you should figure out how note documents work and make sure you are placing the notes into the documents of your choice.

For clarification:

David means to say that he has created additional pallets for the purpose of sending highlights to special folders. There are some users who do this, but I don't recommend it. If your desire is to have "Resource Specific" note documents (which is my preference as well), that feature is coming in the next release (6.4).

David's suggestion means that you can't use keyboard shortcuts for highlighting across resources, plus it proliferates the number of pallets.

Welcome to the forums, David! This is a good place to be; you probably thought the question stage ended at about age five, but it really doesn't start until someone buys Logos, software which does a ton of stuff well, but little easily. On top of that, it is tremendously under-documented. If it weren't for volunteers in the forums, only four or five people in the world could actually use the software.

Bama's advice to you is solid. Read that wiki page and then you'll know which questions to ask. Until then, be prepared to move stuff around to fix what you've done that you won't like when you figure out what it is you actually like. Ask a lot of questions...they are free here. You'll get to know which forum members can really help you (the ones who've already responded are two good ones!) and who will just confuse you (I'm probably one of those!).

In the mean time, as you are reading the wiki on notes and highlights, try to envision the long-term way you'll want to use your notes and highlights. This will help you decide how to construct (as Bama alluded to) they way you store them. You are probably going to get conflicting advice on this topic from other forum users. There are different ways to do it, and you'll have to discern which way fits you best. On top of that, I'm not sure how many people understand the implementation of notes and highlights and how they connect and how they differ; so you'll get some bad advice in the mix. These are just a few things to watch for.

Again, ask a lot of questions!
