Any old, discontinued resources left that don't automatically download?

I am just curious to know if there are any old resources that are not on Logos' servers. I have Logos 2.0 Level 4 and the Oxford Bible Commentary, and those seem to all download correctly. Level 4 contains the Jerome Bible Commentary, BAGD, and some others that are discontinued, but they all download. I also have Logos 3 Gold, but I am not sure if I currently have all of those resources, but I assume I do.

I figure someone made a list at some point in time for dealing with new computer installs.

Once we own a resource it is permament is it must be on the Logos servers. I too have resources that are no longer offered.

There actually have been resources in the past that were not downloadable. One had to use a disc.

I did not think that was the case by it makes me wonder if there are any resources I bought on disc were not on the servers.

I know where you are coming from. Back in the L2 days (and I think early Libronix days as well), I was actually told more than once that I should keep my Logos discs, and make sure not to lose them. This was because if Logos didn't renew the licensing of a resource, they may no longer continue to provide those actual digital books. Once purchased, you could continue to use it indefinitely, but Logos would be unlikely to continue to provide the actual digital resource. Of course, that was back when they mailed you CDs or DVDs, when you bought books. Now, since the old resource files are not compatible with the newer versions, it seems that Logos continues to update and provide those resources with each new version.

When I made the jump from Libronix to L5, I wondered the same thing. I still have a computer with Libronix on it, so I checked a few resources that I thought were no longer available, but were on my Libronix. All that I looked for had downloaded from the server. My assumption is that they now keep/provide all the resources they have ever offered, even if they are no longer actively selling them. A huge commitment, every time the create a new version of Logos, I would think.

The one I've wondered about was older versions of books that the publisher has actively tried to replace. It is my understanding that when the 2011 edition of the NIV came out, Zondervon actively collected any remaining copies of the old version from bookstores that still had some leftover, and replaced them with the new version. I was told that bookstores were not allowed to sell the old (1984?) version (or maybe just that Zondervon preferred that they didn't). I've wondered; if you had the older version NIV in Logos, and bought a new package that included the new translation, would you lose your 1984 edition, replaced with the 2011 version?

That was true a while back but I believe Logos made the effort to add it to their servers when the problem was brought to their attention.

No, we did not lose the old version - it simply became more valuable as those who preferred it but did not already own it were out of luck. Logos could no longer sell the older version.

No! NIV 84 still receives updates (although not to its text) to keep it current with interlinear corrections and new text/indexing functions in the software e.g. Smart Text Selection.

At one time Jerome Bible Commentary and the Oxford Bible Commentary were missing. BUT as pointed out even these two more obscure ones will download now.

There are a few quite exotic ones that won't download automatically, are not on the Logos severs, and need to be copied over manually. Logos 6 is still compatible with the old Libronix format, so it's straightforward adding them back in.

If I remember right, older editions of the World Fact Book, the Meltho Fonts documentation, and all Nelson eBible related resources fall under this category.

I'll connect my external drive with the backup later, and I will be more specific about the exact resources.

I vaguely remember that not all of the John Maxwell books I had were available on the server. Same for older RC Sproul titles (there were videos included). But I can't be more specific as this was a while back and I don't use them anyway. Nevertheless, it seems that one ought to backup older resources (the actual resource files if one does not want to keep CDs, not to mention that computers increasingly come without a CD/DVD reader).

Even the E4 resource from the 1990s that were given away 'free' are now on the server (they weren't, at one point).

Actually, I don't have to fetch the backup drive to name the non automatic resources. Just looking at the file date in the resource folder does the trick. The following three were not on the Logos servers at my last Logos installation in August 2013:

ebibdemoqsg.lbxlls

There are possibly more, since I owned only very few resources at the end of life of Libronix.
