New tool: Christ in the bible theme finder

right now I am reading Tim Keller's new book on preaching and he has a whole chapter on preaching Christ from all of Scripture.

He makes references to several works that can help one do this.

I would like like to suggest that logos create a tool that makes use of such books that Tim references that could be used by preachers and teachers to help them find Christ in some way in every chapter of the bible.

There are many on these forums that are smarter than me when it comes to getting stuff like this developed.

I really think that a tool like this would be worth the work.

Any thoughts? Or suggestion?

Instead of a tool, can't we just ponder how we may apply what is learned from any given chapter in light of the New Covenant? I'd see the benefit of that in the personal exercise rather than in having it served up through a tool. There are, however, numerous resources that talk about messianic prophecy and typology in the OT and that include lists of the relevant passages.

Of course, Francis, what you say is true of any study of Scripture. However, this doesn't negate the need for tools like commentaries or in this case, a tool built in to Logos to help us find the correlations from old to new covenant. I have personally found studying the Old Testament with a Christological focus to be very difficult, partly because I don't want to force into a text a correlation that is not there. This is why we need more resources like Tim Keller's sermons that teach us how to do this.

I agree that it is often useful to draw on the insights of others when our own attempts draw a blank. I must admit that part of my response is based on a rather negative impression of the Christ-centered approaches to the OT I have been exposed to so far and which I would regard, in the final analysis, as being of little value to me.

Question: do Tim Keller's sermons teach you the method/principles or do they tell you what he thinks is a Christ-centered interpretation of a given passage in the OT?

Keller's sermons are just that. They aren't academic lectures, like ones he would give when he was a seminary professor. So, he doesn't give you methods or principles for how to find Christ in the O.T. With the sermons he's interested with how a passage that points to Christ affects your life. When I read Keller's sermons I see historical redemptive themes come to life. Keller is way better in finding the connections than just about anyone else.

Biblical Theology in the Life of the Church was a freebie a few months back. You may have picked it up back then. It gets more into the study of how to find historical redemptive themes. It is written from a practical perspective, and the author applies his insights to ministry.
