Using Logos 4 on other user profiles

Hi,

I've encountered a problem that I cannot seem to remedy. I recently downloaded the L4 on my mac. The download went fine, but when I went into system preferences to try and enable the software to be used on other user profiles for this computer it wouldn't work. It only works on the administrator profile.

When I would go to the other profile to open it up, logos 4 opens up, but none of the library is available. Then I tried to uninstall the L4 on the admin profile, so that I could have it installed on the profile I use, but I could not uninstall it.

Thus, I just spent a lot of money on software that I can't even use. How do I fix this?

Why can't you use it? I only have a single user on my computer, and it has been that way since 1984.

Then I tried to uninstall the L4 on the admin profile, so that I could have it installed on the profile I use, but I could not uninstall it.

How did you attempt to uninstall? Why did your procedure not work?

BTW, Welcome to L4 for Mac and to the forum. We really want to help you, but we need some details of the problem.

The resources and other application data are maintained per user account.

When you launched the software as the second user, it should have prompted you to login again and, when you did, it should've started up the indexer and tried to download all of your resources again for that user account.

I'm not sure why that didn't happen. If you take a look at the links in my signature, there are instructions for posting application logs which will help us have some idea of what is going on.

Hi Cameron,

I have tried to download my L4 onto the other user profile. Unfortunately, when I try downloading the contents of the library it only downloads in small increments. That is, while on the master profile I have 543 books (from both my L4 library and other bible software), I only have 223 books on my user profile. And even though the amount of books it downloads at a time are very small, it still takes nearly a day to download. This is unlike the first download I did when I first purchased the software. On that initial download (in the master profile) it downloaded all of the contents at one time.

What is going on, and how do I solve this problem?

Likewise curious what's happening - console messages and log files should be helpful - please post.

Personally use admin account to "install" Logos 4 into Applications folder. Now using non-admin account for daily usage => after reading Mac OS X security tip, created new admin account, then removed admin privileges from daily use account. While using daily account, software installation prompts now need userid and password.

For Alpha testing. have learned not to enter userid and password - reduces log file size by avoiding development group file checking.

By the way, personally remember Fat Mac (512 KB) upgrade to Mac Plus (1 MB) many years ago along with 1988 bargain: $ 1,300 for external 140 MB hard drive (less than $ 10 per MB). Today, a $ 10 flash drive has more storage space and faster file transfer.

If you look at the FAQ link in my signature, you can find item #6 which is a tutorial video about how to post your logs. I suggest logging in as the user who is having problems, start Logos 4. When the problem manifests itself, zip up the logs and post them in this thread. Without logs, it's impossible to know what is going on.

I'm looking back into this issue. I'm a little perplexed by what you mean by went into system preferences and tried to "enable the software to be used on other user profiles for this computer".

What settings did you tweak?
