TIP of the day: Why set a community tag - adding information

What happens when you add a community tag? It does genuinely affect how the application works.

1. Open Powell, Mark Allan, ed. The HarperCollins Bible Dictionary (Revised and Updated). New York: HarperCollins, 2011. to the article on Esau.  Hover over Esau and you'll see nothing happening. Right click on Esau to bring up the Context Menu. Note that Esau is not tagged as a Person.

2. Add a Community Tag linking the entry heading "Esau" to the Biblical Person Esau.

3. Now try hovering over Esau in the dictionary. You'll see a small information panel giving the basic information regarding Esau.

4. Now the Context Menu (right-click) provides you with all the options you associate with a Biblical Person selection.

5. Note your Community Tags are visible to others. You can see others' Community Tags. The Context Menu identifies Community Tags as such. If someone has made an error in tagging, e.g. confusing Israel as a name for Jacob with Israel the nation, the Context Menu allows you the option to delete the tag. Deletion does one of two things:

  • if you created the Community Tag it will be deleted
  • if someone else created the Community Tag, when you "delete" you are simply making the tag invisible to you. The tagging is unchanged.

6. Searches also may use the Community Tags ... but that is a topic for another post.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Thanks again MJ. This was something that I had not explored before.

Your instructions were just fine although I did have to scroll the list to find the 'Add Community Tag' bit.
