Can someone explain or point me to a better understanding of the Cross References section of the Explorer Pane? I struggle with relating the verses that show there, with the passage I am looking at. I believe that these are passages quoted in one or more bibles in my library referenced in the passage I am looking at - saving me the time of bringing up all bibles and checking all footnotes. But my challenges are this:
1. What verse/word is footnoted by this bible reference?
2. How is this bible reference supposed to be related, or is it supposed to be obvious to me?
For example - I am looking at Luke 1:57-66, Birth of John the Baptist. The Cross References section has (in part):
Ge 12:1 - Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
How is this related to the birth of John the Baptist? Lord sends Abraham on a journey, and Lord sends John Baptist on a journey preparing the way for the Lord? Is there any way to get any substance out of this or is it presented just for me to reflect upon?
Gen 12:14 - When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. So how is this related? I don't see this one at all!
Gen 14:10 - Now the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some fell into them, and the rest fled to the hill country. Again, I don't really see anything productive out of this cross-reference. I acknowledge maybe there is something on I don't know, but how would I figure that out - how do I uncover the obscure cross reference?
Maybe I don't know how to use this. Maybe I am overthinking it. Maybe I am supposed to look at the common actions/events/descriptions it presents, and IF something seems meaningful, research it further. Maybe these cross references are just randomly generated :-)
