Wordlists / Audio (Greek)

Hi. I just got Logos today (Starter base package).

So I ran a search here, and on Google using some of their operators (Google always seems to be the best way to find anything at a site), and couldn't find the answers I was looking for.

I am interested in learning some biblical Greek, and have a book on the way. But I also love spending time on the computer, and I think Logos has some great tools I can use. I love that there's the SBL GNT as I'm not ready to spend the money on a NA/UBS critical edition.

I saw on YouTube someone run a short demo of how an audio reading of the GNT works using Logos. I thought this was simply awesome. Of course, I don't have this feature but would like it, as well as the ability to use audio in the Wordlist. So I found in the Logos store the Greek Audio New Testament. This works with the SBL it says. I assume it will work the same as in the video I saw.

So a few of questions:

Would purchasing the Greek Audio New Testament enable the audio in the Wordlists?

Also, would I be able to highlight a word in the SBL and have just that word played back by itself?

Last question, is there any way to change the speed the speaker reads a GNT?

Big thank you to anybody who can answer any of these questions!

Welcome, James, and congrats on your purchase!

There are two distinct things you'll want to consider:

The former gives you pronunciations of Greek lemmas (dictionary forms, not each inflected form). The latter gives you pronunciations of each word (each inflected form) in context, but not directly attached to the word. It's done at the verse level.

We don't sell the pronunciations a la carte. You're cheapest option is probably to pick them up in Core Crossgrade. The audio Bible is available for standalone purchase.

    To answer your question directly:

    1. Purchasing the Greek Audio NT wouldn't give you lemma pronunciations. That requires the pronunciations datasets.
    2. With the pronunciations datasets, yes.
    3. Yes. We support .75x, 1x, 1.4x, and 2x playback speeds.

Thank you for the response, Phil! I'm very pleased with the way Faithlife interacts with its customers through the forums. I totally expected this forum to be community of users helping out other users and that the company would not respond so directly through the forum. The best hope I had for receiving answers directly from Faithlife was that maybe there was a contact form on the site somewhere. Again, very pleased to find out differently.

I did take a look at the Core Crossgrade package. It is listed with a discount for me (I also checked out some of the other packages, to see discounts there as well).

Are these discounts available because I already have the Starter package, which contains a lot of the resources available through the CC package?

I did see a few interesting things that will be new to me in the Core Crossgrade package other than just the Greek pronunciations dataset. While I am debating acquiring the package because of the lower monthly payment at the discount price, it is completely out of the question that I would do so in the immediate future, considering the year-long investment. It won't happen this month, or the next, in other words. I will be purchasing the Greek Audio NT when my budget permits, probably around the end of this month.

Will the discount on the Core Crossgrade package be available to me for the foreseeable future? If it was, I could see possibly acquiring it four, maybe six months into the future, all things permitting.

I don't want to take up anymore of your time, I'm sure you're busy. Thank you.

You're welcome, James. Many of us enjoy chiming in here from time to time and helping out when we can. But there's also a really engaged community here to do the lion's share of the helping.

Yes. Most products support what we call "dynamic pricing." Dynamic pricing ensures you pay only for what you don't yet own. We discount the price proportionately based on what you already own.

These dynamic pricing discounts won't go away.
