Timelines: What do you think?
I haven't seen any discussion of the new timeline interface. (Use Library "type:timeline" to find timeline resources.)
Any feedback?

I'm not getting anything either...

I've used the timelines, after noticing that the timeline files were causing the indexer to crash...; but after putting the timelines back in the resources folder I noticed that only a few are recognized, not all...

Would love to offer comment but notthing there to comment on.....Like MIchael and Tom I am not getting anything come up in my library using this option either. This is one thing I hadn't gotten around to post a missing feature.

Sorry -- they didn't get into most users' installs. They'll be in Beta 2.0

nothing in my laptop, maybe I'll be lucky enough to test it if my DVD ever arrives. (ISO downloads please!)

I didn't know there were any timelines as there seems to be no menu entry to summon them, but I have one timeline - the life of Jesus.
It looks nice and is pretty nippy - a lot faster than 3, and I like the iPod touch style slidey\bouncey interface.
Is it compatible with L3 timelines?

Yes, now that I have them [:)]Bob Pritchett said:I haven't seen any discussion of the new timeline interface. (Use Library "type:timeline" to find timeline resources.)

- They look just like the timelines in v3, but I'm not certain I can bring in the many others from v3 that I used to have, can I?
- There's a good selection to start with, if we can't make our own, I hope more are coming.
- The differing types of views (liquid, B&W, pencil, colored pencil) are all nice and can easily have thier proper places at appropriate times. I would like one more view type. "Linear" or "Inline" if you will. For an example here's a partial mockup of the NT timeline in Linear style.
- Frustratingly: when I scroll with my mouse wheel it either shrinks or grows the timeline rather than scrolling up or down. BUG! or at least not as it should be.
- Timelines should be available to handouts
- Clicking "Expand all" is great, but it should then change to "collapse all" after that.
- I like the superimposed + and - that fades into view when you hover over it. However if you didn't know they were supposed to be there you're likely to not even hover and thus miss them. I'm not sure how to suggest overcoming that.

Feedback on the new timelines...very nicely done.
Dragging works flawlessly...expanding width wise works great..
The only V3 timelines were "buggy" for me...they lagged, they were frequently unresponsive, they seemed to hog resources...
the new V4 timelines are sleek, clear visually and surprise! Can be rightclick exported to a JPG!
Nicely done and for the first time (IMHO) usable on a daily basis [Y]

I think that the right click options need expanding, I would like to be able to copy the whole time line for pasting as well as saving it as a JPEG.
Send to PowerPoint would also be useful.

The Timelines look good, they are similar to v3, but with a few extras like the right click.
Good work
Will we be able to write our own XML code to create our own as I have done in v3?

Well, the cursor changes to a hand icon.. It seems to me like we are adding a behavior which doesn't exist in (ie. pdf) documents which both dragging and scrolling do the same thing..

you can do exactly that...right click and choose save only window, and save whole timeline.
No you can not because you can not COPY the WHOLE timeline or save the VISIBLE timeline...

Graham,
My misunderstanding...it said save so I assumed that saving the whole timeline was good enough....is there some program that you're trying to use this in that won't let you crop once you get there?

Well I'll have to check it out as I didn't even know they were there. Hmmm, not as intuitive? Must have been sleeping or something.
Thanks.

I had forgotten about the timelines until Thomas posted his reply to this thread.
I then went to my Library and typed in "timeline" and got nothing (well a Nelson title or two).
I then came back and read the thread and saw that we had to type in "type:timeline"
Would it no be simpler to name each timeline "Timeline: XXX XXX XXX" ?

Just wanted to add my agree ment with this post by Rober! *smile* Find these timelines a lot more exciting than in Logos 3 and more usable. I'm sure there will be still further improvement.Robert Pavich said:Feedback on the new timelines...very nicely done.

Timelines are nice, but I hope here will be more like the quatity I have in v3. I would like to see scroll bars rather then just the grab and move. It is more movement intensive wit the grab and move, when I would rather jut scroll.

Just noticed you can use Link Set on Timelines, but not sure if it does anything... Anyone else?

I do like the zoom and grab and drag mode.
It would be nice to collapse to see only the ones you want to view.
For Tablet use - would be nice to have a zoom bar.
Really like the black style

Looks very nice, but usability could be improved.
There should be at least:
- a vertical scroll bar (vertical dragging by mouse always leads to a horizontal shift)
- a "Shrink all" button like the "Expand all" buttonThank scale should always remain visible even if you scroll down.

I agree with Graham all four options should be available from right click menu along with send to power point . I think inffographics have export to powerpoint form memory so adding here to keep consistency across the application would be good and probably greater priority if a choice had to be made.

I like the hightlight that comes up when you type in a date in the entry box... I would like if ths highlight also came up when you clicked on a date in the timeline rule at the top of the document.
