Suggestion for New Interactive Resource

Just wondering what the level of interest would be in Faithlife creating an interactive resource for finding and studying corresponding passages. I have in mind the differences in the chapter/verse divisions of English Bibles compared to the Septuagint compared to the Hebrew Old Testament, etc. For example, an important prophecy in Joel begins in Joel 2:28 in English Bibles, but in the Hebrew Old Testament it begins in Joel 3:1. There are many examples of such differences, and they exist for a number of reasons. I would like to have an interactive resource where I am able to (1) choose which Bibles are displayed within the resource, (2) enter a reference for any of the Bibles currently being displayed, and (3) have Logos display the corresponding passage (if it exists) in the other Bibles being displayed. As an example of why I say "if it exists," not all references in the Septuagint will be found in an English Bible or the Hebrew Old Testament. Good idea? Bad idea? Idea that could be improved or that already exists? Let me know!

Can partly be accomplished in "compare Pericopies" (Passage Analysis tool)

(1) choose which Bibles are displayed within the resource, (2) enter a reference for any of the Bibles currently being displayed, and (3) have Logos display the corresponding passage (if it exists) in the other Bibles being displayed.

I chose the Bibles to be displayed, put them all on a link set, typed the passage into the reference box of the Bible I choose, and Logos finds the corresponding verse in the other linked resources. "If it exists" they will all sync, if it doesn't exist, the resources linked won't follow...

I am only seeing English Bibles when I try this. Granted, LES is one of them, which would cover the Septuagint. My goal would be to do this Bibles in different languages (English, Greek, Hebrew, etc.).

I have a similar layout I use for this exact purpose. It works, but requires setting up an entirely separate layout, opening multiple resources, and takes up much more space. What I am suggesting would be a single resource that could do this more concisely without taking over one's layout.

You can use Bibles of any language(s). What you are requesting is my most common reason for turning to the text comparison tool. The only thing it doesn't do is tell you where a verse might have been moved to if it is outside your pericope range.

MJ, that is an extremely interesting and creative use of the text comparison tool. I can safely say that I would never have thought of that on my own. I just created a quick collection uncreatively titled "Text Comparison" that consists of BHS, ESV, LES, and Ralf's LXX. I then opened the text comparison tool and entered Joel 2:28. My results are as follows:

This still takes a little bit of prep time to set up, but it seems like a better solution than creating elaborate layouts. The only downside I see besides the one you mentioned is that we cannot do a whole lot with the text in this form other than copy it. This will be the solution I implement until something better is available.

Thanks MJ, I forgot to use a collection for this tool. Now I guess with the capability to rename Bibles, I could...

1. Put a prefixed number before the Bibles

2. Thus, having them sort together with similar versions.

(00) Hebrew versions, (01) LXX versions, (02) English translations of LXX, (03) Latin Vulgate versions, (04) English translations of the Vulgate, (05) English Bibles, (06) Greek New Testament versions

Then use this organized collection to view the similar versions in order in the text comparison tool.

I prefer not to do this, because I don't like renumbering my Bibles. I think there are two better ways:

Specify the Bible versions individually in the box, and run your text comparison.
Then, either:

In the future, rely on the "Recent" section in the dropdown to return to this comparison.
Or, use the History tool to drag the text comparisons you've just run to your favorites or shortcuts. Rename them to suit. That will enable you do re-do the comparison in the future.

Another interesting idea for the text comparison tool. I am not where I can test it at the moment, but I thought that when I created a collection for this purpose (see above post by me), the text comparison tool displayed Bibles in the order I had them listed in the collection. If this is the case, then you would not have to rename anything. Just add whatever Bibles you want to the collection, manually arrange them in the order you want, and you should be good to go. Again, I think that is the case, but I would need to test it to be sure.

I understand. To be honest, I was expecting the edited names to show up in the Text Comparison tool, but to my pleasant surprise, they weren't (as the picture illustrates). But I guess I will see how annoying they are as they show up in various places around the software.

You are correct. I guess by some statistical anomaly I added the resources to my small test collection in perfect alphabetical order without any conscious intention of doing so.
