Cigted By - Beale/Carson - ignores chapter refs?

When I use Cited By with Beale/Carson's NT Use of the OT Commentary, it does not seem to provide hits where the reference is to an entire chapter. E.g. if I choose Ex 19.2 it does not show the hits where the book references Ex 19 ... (checked against paper copy ...)

Is that because the commentary is not fully tagged? For example, it does show a hit on Ex 19:1-13 ...

Guess that i am a little fuzzy on understanding what you are getting, and what you expect. I created a collection with only Beale/Carson's NT Use of the OT in it. Then added it to Cited By using (see wiki Cited By) Collection setting in the Cited By window's settings.

What are you looking under in Cited By; All Open resources, Entire Library, Collection ? As you probably already know, you will only see 5 hits under each of these selections.

You need to click "more" for your screen shot to have any meaning - the entries for 19:2 should also appear in 19 ... which they don't in your clip but without expansion that tells me ... nothing

I was just trying to show Jonathan typical displays per what i thought he might have been seeing. That is why i drew an arrow next to the 43x so that he would know there were more hits. i am guessing that he may be looking under Entire Library, which may or may not include the CNTUOT, since only 5 references are listed. i am not sure when he might be back, to get more info for us. Your suggestion may well work, on the other hand if he is using the 'Entire Library', he may get thousands of hits (but could select By Book, which would help). So if i am not around hopefully you could help him [;)]

Interestingly on my desktop PC it seems that the Beale/Carson is no longer properly indexed or something because I get no results at all although the resource is present.

I'll try this on my laptop ... how do I manually reindex on my desktop or at least force reindexation of Beale/Carson?

Thanks for posting suggestions. I think what I am saying is the other way around to what you suggested! i.e. when I enter Ex 19:2 I expect to see references to any entries in the paper copy index that include the range I enter, including those references that cover the whole chapter - which in the paper copy of the commentary includes Mk 2.10, 1 Pe 2.9-10, Re 4-5 and Re 16.21 (i.e. pages 137,1030,1031,1099,1137).

The references given by L4 (Jn 12.40 and Lk 18.18-20) are from pages 480 and 351 (which is Ex 19.1-13). I think that L4 should show the references as above in addition but it only shows the two (as in your screenshot).

If I enter Ex 19 as the reference in Cited By it then includes references to the whole chapter as you would expect ... I think that omitting these when a verse range is entered must be classified as an omission/bug/specification error in L4!!!

That's a reasonable view particularly as L3 included the chapter when I ran a similar search for bible references. I think this is something for the Suggestions forum, if you'd like to re-post there.

Though the screen for composing a note won't allow paste, the paper clip will attach a saved image.
