Blue Screen

Is anyone else having problems with the "Blue Screen of Death" since loading Logos 4? I am not saying that Logos is causing it - I just don't know. I've been having problems recently and the episodes are increasing. I can't remember exactly when it happend the first time, but it would have been around the time I switched from Logos 3 to Logos 4. I was just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. And, if so, is there something I can do to fix it?

What OS (XP, Win 7, Vista, and is it 32 bit, 64 bit)are you running? Can you check your Event Log, especially System, to see what errors are being reported? Could be graphics card, memory, disk, if so it should show up there.

Also, the Blue Screen shows a message at the top of it, like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL blah blah blah. You could post that or search on Google to see what you can learn about it. If it's a driver problem this could cause a blue screen.

Have you updated your drivers lately?

Thanks Dominick. I'm not very computer savvy, but I'll try to answer your questions. I have Windows XP. ( I got the computer last year, it came with Vista, but I hired a computer tech to come and take off Vista and replace it with XP because I was having so many problems with older software on Vista. I will note, that was early last year and I did not have any problems until recently.)

Where do I find the version of Windows and bit info?

Sorry, I did not write down what it says at the top of the Blue Screen. (I will if/when it happens again.)

And, yes, I did update all drivers, etc. yesterday after I made this post. The blue screen seems to always happen if I leave a program (any program) open and then come back to the computer after it has gone into sleep mode. When I move the mouse to "wake it up" I have the blue screen or a message that says it has recovered from a serious error. I must say that I have not had it happen again since doing all the Microsoft updates yesterday afternoon (that does include the drivers, right?). [Sorry I don't understand all this stuff.] However, I also have not left any program open when I get up from the computer.

I found an "error log", is that the same as the event log? The error log did not show anything.

I did go to the Help & Support section > My Computer Information > View Advanced System Information > View detailed system information (Msinfo32.exe). I got a message that said: " Can't Collect Information. Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing." From the Support section I also clicked on the "View general system information about this computer", all the areas of that screen/report were blank. That does not sound good.

I'm lost, any suggestions? or do I just need to take it to the local computer shop? I'm afraid it is going to crash and lose all my files.

Make notes of which applications preceded the Blue Screen. If only one application does this, it may not be releasing your Resources properly and applications loading afterwards may be clashing.

If you identify the pre-Blue Screen culprit, then just reboot after using the application. i have that problem with one game program.

I had the dreaded Blue Screen again this morning. It seems that anytime the computer is left long enough to go into sleep mode, when I come back I have the Blue Screen. I'll start writing down what programs I have used and see if there is a pattern.

Is it possible that "sleep mode" IS THE problem?

Would "googleing that term get you any answers?

Are you running any downloaded screen savers? Or perhaps anything like the Weather desktop? I was getting the blue screen, and it was getting more and more frequent, so I went back and uninstalled the weather desktop AND the screen saver I loved from Day One (the publisher of those wonderful Opening Up Commentaries), and I haven't had it happen again. I was pretty sure it had to be one of those things because they were the only things added fairly recently.

Now that I've narrowed the cause down to one of two things, I'm going to try installing the screen saver again and see if it starts up.

It could be background programs, ones that are loaded when your computer starts.

Go to Start | Run, type msconfig and click OK. Open the Startup tab and list the programs in your next message (expand the first column to get the complete name).
