I am looking for the particular Hebrew expression "יהוה אֱלֹהֵי" followed by a proper noun and not any noun or a suffix

Does somebody know how to do that?

I have found "יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל" but is there any other proper noun ?

The best way is with the Syntax Search, but this can also be done (well enough anyway) with the morph search. Here are both.

Morph search

Note that some results are false hits, as participles or direct object markers are simply ignored, as well as because we cannot do searches that include the vowels.

Syntax Search

The syntax search resolves both of these limitations. Here it is:

And the results look perfect:

I have published this syntax search to the Logos Syntax Searching Faithlife Group. If you join the group you can download the syntax search. Enjoy!

I don't fully understand exactly what you mean by "and not any noun or a suffix", but to search for "יהוה אֱלֹהֵי" followed by a proper noun is as simple as a morph search for "יהוה אֱלֹהֵי" BEFORE 1 WORD @NP.

Switching to an analysis search and grouping by lemma will reveal that the proper nouns are:

  • יִשְׂרָאֵל (Israel)
  • אַבְרָהָם (Abraham)
  • דָּוִד (David)
  • אֵלִיָּ֫הוּ (Elijah)
  • שֵׁם (Shem)

I don't fully understand exactly what you mean by "and not any noun or a suffix", but to search for "יהוה אֱלֹהֵי" followed by a proper noun is as simple as a morph search for "יהוה אֱלֹהֵי" BEFORE 1 WORD @NP.

This method misses verses like Josh 7:19, 20; 8:30; 9:18 where there is a preposition in front of יהוה.

lemma:יהוה BEFORE 1 WORD lemma:אֱלֹהִים@ncmpc BEFORE 1 WORD @np

seems to work fairly well.  There might be a false positive or two in the mix, but that can be mentally erased.

I still have a hard time with the hebrew keyboard though

I do prefer the syntax search. I have to learn it

Now just to complicate the matter

Can we do the same search but like lemma:יהוה BEFORE 1 WORD lemma:אֱלֹהִים@ncmpc BEFORE 1 WORD @np

without

lemma:יהוה BEFORE 1 WORD lemma:אֱלֹהִים@ncmpc BEFORE 1 WORD lemma:יִשְׂרָאֵל

what is the technical word that I should use for "without"? is it "ANDNOT"?

I created a second Syntax Search as well and uploaded it to the Faithlife site (it is called Adonai Elohei + Proper Noun (except Israel)). You can connect to it and see how it works.

Here you can really notice the difference in how clean these results are compared to the Morph search option, as most of the false positives in the Morph Search come when Israel is not mentioned.
