I oftentimes see brackets appear in text without the text that should be in there. See example:

When a passage occurred in the Hebrew but not in the Septuagint, Origen would insert that passage from Theodotion’s version and mark its beginning with an asterisk ( or ).

Geisler, N. L., & Nix, W. E. (1996). A general introduction to the Bible (Rev. and expanded.) (508). Chicago: Moody Press.

I have tried dozens of fonts and have greek and hebrew enables but still no text shows up. Anyobe have a suggestion which font to use?

I see the problem. Here is a screen shot. (Page 508-09). Perhaps these were not coded in properly??

I just came across this myself in this resource.  I think it must be a typo; perhaps a Syriac font should have been used for these symbols.  The best Hexapla examples I could find in one location are at this link.  Google books doesn't offer a preview of Geisler's book, and I don't have a hard copy so I can't confirm what the text should say.

I went through all the fonts and none of them correctly display these characters (not even Chiller! [;)])

I'll submit a report for the issue.

BibliaLS supports the characters, as does LibronixApparatusFont.
