Accidental double purchase of books?

Hi yall, I'm wondering if the Logos website has a function that will help me to not purchase the same books twice? I bought a base package recently and was looking around the website to find other books I might be interested in. The site suggested I buy some books, but on that suggestion list was a set of books that were already included in my base package. I didn't know that I had that resource already and made it all the way to the order completion screen...I was just about to buy the set of books and thought that I should check in my library to see if the resource was already there. It was, so I didn't complete the order, but I am wondering what would have happened if I had actually tried to purchase it? Would Logos have let me? Also, what about bundle purchases...if I have a single book out of a bundle and then decide to hit the website up for the actual bundled set, do I get a discount on the bundle or do I end up with two of the same books?

Yes we can double purchase. Logos is usually pretty good about refunding when we do dumb things like that, but my practice, like yours, is to check my library first before purchasing. I've caught myself more than once doing just what you did.

If you have a single volume and later a collection is made available, as far as I know, as a general rule there is no discount available. This could change in the future, and occasionally there have been exceptions made to the general rule. But that usually doesn't bother me, since I got to use the original resource for a while, and the cost of the collections are usually a good bargain and value to me anyway. The fact that someone else might get an even better bargain than me doesn't bother me at all, (though it does remind me of that parable Jesus taught, where people were hired at different times of day for the same wage -- grace isn't fair, thank the Lord!).

BTW, you won't end up with two books. Only one copy of any book could be found in your library at any one time. Though, you could have two licenses for a single book. Theoretically, if you purchased one of the books individually, you could sell that license, but there is a transfer fee for that, and for a single book, that typically makes the transfer financially undesirable for the buyer - or for you (for whomever pays the fee).

And what if I need 2 copies of the same book in my library?

Me and my wife are using the same account and we have the same favorite Bible. In order to have our own Bible for each of us (For personnal highlighting and notes) can we buy the same book twice? (Louis Second French Bible #1 AND Louis Second French Bible #2 in the same library and same account)

Suggestion: Create separate highlight palettes for each of you. You can then turn them on & off at will. Same with notes.

If you just put the bundle in your shopping cart on the website, it wouldn't change the price. It would require contacting sales to get the price reduction.

I think Logos should implement what Amazon has for Kindle books. First of all, if you revisit the product description page for a book you already bought, they have a message across the top saying, e.g., You purchased this item on June 5, 2011.

If you overlook that somehow and try to click on the "Buy now with 1-click" button to purchase the book anyway, it won't let you pay for it again. Instead you get a message saying:

Our records show that you already purchased <book title> on <date>.

You can find this title under Archived Items on your Amazon Kindle or Kindle reading application, or the Manage Your Kindle page.

Logos should have enough information to give a similar message with help for how the person can find that book that they already have purchased: maybe they just need to restart Logos so it downloads, or maybe they have "Automatically Download Updates" set to No and need to manually confirm the download by clicking on the popup message, or perhaps they should check their Hidden Resources.

I would suppose you could purchase a second copy, but why? How do you intend to distinguish "his" from "hers"? Are you both going to use it at the same time (a no-no)? (Even then a second copy isn't necessary).

I don't think you can have two copies of the same book in your Library, due to technical reasons, because the book has a particular file name, and you either have that file in your resources folder your you don't. You can't have two copies of it. If one copy were named something else, it would not be in your Library.

If you want to have separate notes and highlighting in your Bible that you share with your wife, you can use two different Notes files. Each one would open their respective notes file before doing their Scripture reading, and then right-click "Add note to... " <His> or <Hers> respectively. For the highlighting, you'd create two different Highlighting palettes; each of you could have your own favorite custom highlighting styles. Then you can turn the palettes on and off independently using the Visual Filters menu.
