Suggestion: New Feature: Commentary Tool

It would be nice to have all my favorite commentaries on a certain passage listed on the same page.  For example all my Study Bible comments. Power lookup comes close but I can't choose my favorite commentary collections.

1.  Allow the selection of collections:  Example all my Study Bibles, Expository Commentaries, Intermediate Commentaries

2.  Allow complete comments even for longer commentary entries.  The Power Lookup Tool truncates longer entries.

3.  Allow me to sort which collections come first

4.  Allow scrolling with Bible

    Hi John

Have you tried creating guides from the make guides template,

I have guides for my different commentary collections etc.

I strip it down so it just a passage guide for a commentary collection.

I can do all that you want with these guides.

    Just thought

The key is having all my comments from each commentary on the same page instead of clicking back and forth.  Custom Guides will not do this.

    Hi John

It looks as though the Multiple Resources panel is the sort of thing you might be looking for.

Just released in beta as per https://wiki.logos.com/Logos_6.6_Beta_2

    Multiple Resources

Added the Multiple Resources button to the resource panel, allowing you to create your own customized polyglot bibles in one panel.
Note: This is a major change to the resource panel. If multi-view resources aren’t stable by the end of Beta 4, we may delay this feature from Stable for another beta cycle.

    • Click the Multiple Resource button (looks like ||| ) to open the dropdown menu. This includes a filter box to search for desired resources.
    • Clicking the checkbox next to a resource will add it to the panel.
    • Multiple resources can be toggled on/off while maintaining selections by checking the “Show multiple resources:” button at the top of the menu.
    • The initial resource is considered the “host”. Certain functions will only be performed on the host, regardless of additional bibles added:
      • Each resource has its own scrollbar, but only the host resource will navigate the other added resources.
      • Print/Export will only be performed on the host resource.
      • Ctrl/Cmd+F will only be performed on the host resource.
      • The Resource Information panel will only display information on the host resource.

So, if this ends up being stable it should appear in the Stable release in a month or so (see caveat note above)

    A screenshot is below

It may not do all you are asking for but it is a really nice capability

The Multiple Resource Panel doesn't do it.  I would like just the comment in my Study Bibles related to the verse I am studying.  Limit Multiple Resources to just the comment on that verse and then I can add 20 study Bibles without crowding the screen. Make this a feature I can toggle on and off as needed.

Maybe I'm asking to improve the Power Lookup Tool.  All the resources are jumbled together Bible and Commentaries.

Hi, John. I agree that would be a good feature. I think a future version of the Commentaries section of the Passage Guide would be a good way to do what you're hoping for.

In the meantime, a {Milestone <Bible = Jer 25:30>} search would get basically the same results you're getting with Power Lookup, but would give you control over the collection to search and will let you sort by Resource as well. Here I've entered "type:commentary" into the resources drop-down of Basic Search to search all of my commentaries.

Not quite what you wanted, of course -- the text is still cut off.

Eli, Thanks for responding but I would not like this in the Passage Guide.  I would prefer this as a stand alone feature or part of a redone power lookup.  I would like to say read 20 commentaries that I choose in the order that I choose on the same page with only the passage commented upon.  Further I would like to use column view to read them all at once.  I wouldn't want to clutter up the Passage Guide with this.

Thanks, John. That helps me understand what you're looking for (and others probably are, too).

The Power Lookup hasn't changed much since L4, so I think it's ripe for some improvements in the same vein as what we did with Information and Cited By recently. For one thing, Power Lookup could let you choose which collection to look up milestones in, and could have an ability to show you those results in priority order. I'm adding this to our list of improvements to consider.

Thanks, Eli! Looking forward to that, hopefully not much further than ½ a year away.

Excellent ideas! That's got some great potential

Yes I have often wanted something like this. The connection though won't always be to an individual verse as sometimes the comment applies to a range of verses but very useful all the same.
