"What is Footnote Text"?

I must not understand what the search field footnote text means, can anyone explain?
Just on a lark I did this - I took the new NIV BIble Study Notes resources, and did a wildcard search '*' in Footnote text. I got 131,682 results back, but none of them seem to be footnotes - they are just normal text throughout the book!
Is Footnote text a specific tag? Should this have worked?
Thanks!

It seems possible that each verse note in a study Bible is considered a footnote. So your search just returned all of them.

"Footnote text" is the text within the contents of a popup.
Search results for footnote text are highlighted within the body text of the resource (specifically, the hyperlink that opens the popup).
Searching for "footnote:the" might illustrate the difference. The word "the" in the body text of the resource won't be highlighted in search results; only the footnote markers that open a popup containing the word "the" will be highlighted.

So is pretty much all the text in the new Zondervan Bible Study Notes accurately considered footnotes then Bradley? I expected to see footnote numbers highlighted but I did not - just normal text in what appears to be the body of the text. See first post, there are tons of hits searching for * in "Footnote Text", yet I cannot find a word that appears in footnotes if searching explicitly for a word or scripture (I tried Jesus, God, saved, salvation, <Numbers>, <John> - between those searches and my OP I can't tell if everything is footnote text or nothing is) I could get some maps to come up, which also confuses me.

Can you post a couple of screenshots? I'm not sure that I understand what you're describing; it doesn't seem to match what I see at my computer.

Here is a search on God in foot notes - I couldn't find a word mentioned in a footnote per the noes I tried above:
And here is a search for any words in footnotes, and it finds all kinds of what looks like normal text - I know there is something here I don't understand about footnote text, or its use in this resource, etc...!

This is finding the word "God" in the description (or other metadata) of the image. I don't believe there's a way to view that text currently.

The search result is highlighted in normal text. The text that is being found is the text inside the popup that appears when you click the highlighted search result. (If the highlight was shown only in the popup, there would be no way of knowing where the result was.)

Thanks Bradley, sorry for being slow on this, but what does it have to do with footnotes, as I said to search in Footnote Text?

For searching purposes, "Footnote" essentially means all "invisible" text, including: footnotes, endnotes, abbreviation popups, image metadata, etc.

Ok, thanks Bradley, that makes sense with what you said before!
