Logos' future; we're planning to grow faster than ever. (Details to follow.)

News like this makes me very excited! Can't wait to hear more. Do you think it's new page turning and scanning robots? The purchase of books.google.com (ha)? Maybe it's the recent hires? (That's my odds-on favorite).

Oooh, can't wait to find out what that's all about! Bob had been talking about feeling squeezed in their current headquarters. Maybe they're moving to bigger digs so they can have space to hire more people...

Ditto. The only thing that would really help me is more programmers to fix the bugs faster and get the rest of the features implemented faster; and more customer support staff to reduce the wait times on the phone and email turnaround times.

What about moving to another state so that we do not have to pay tax on online purchases?
for some big purchases, tax sometimes kills the deal

I bet it cost ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

What do you mean? I never have to pay tax on online purchases. If you do, I think that must have something to do with where you live, not where Logos is located. I live in Canada and can order online products from Logos with no taxes. Maybe there are some states or countries that tax online purchases and Logos is required by law to charge you that tax.

In the US if you live in the state and purchase from an online store that has a physical presence in that state you have to pay sales tax. This would mean any Washington residents would have to pay sales tax on any Logos purchases.

I live in California and pay taxes on Logos downloads. I don't pay taxes directly on items from another internet store in Washington or on purchases from stores in other states. California does expect us to declare these purchases on our annual tax return and pay sales tax on them. I beleive this depends on the state you live in, some only require tax for companies that have a business presence in the state.

Nah. That post dealt with attempts by the city fathers (and mothers) to allow expansion of large retail operations by creating some fancy, but probably legally unsupportable, 'exceptions' to their current 90,000 square foot maximum size limits. Logos is not a retail operation.
Besides they all love Bellingham.

James, you are behind in your reading. Apps for the iPhone, Mac, and soon the iPad. Not Microsoft, but Apple.
BTW: Hebrew for apple is tappuah so I think the new company will be called Tappuah-Logos Corporation.

They are investing in @Logos, the Logos Twitter name/presence. My guess is that they're investing more time into tweeting as a platform for promoting Logos and announcing Logos information.
IMHO, twitter is a flash in the pan, and it will all be over in 2 to 5 years. But for those who need to have their finger on the pulse of current trends, which includes 'early adopters' (a software developer's best friend) Twitter is a must. So, if it helps sales, that should help lower the cost per download for resources. Which means, I'm for it (even though I neither twit nor tweet).

With all due respect to growth and the future of a company, that future doesn't appear worth much if the current products are not providing rudimentary functionality (i.e. printing as L4 does not provide).
I do hope that the investment is partly into programmers which can get L4's basic tools running, and prevent such a situation in the future.

Actually they are planning to move to the bahamas, because the weatherup North is so cold. Once that happens, I will be hired as a consultant, with the possibility of becoming CEO of the company.

Yeah, but Washington residents don't have to pay any income tax, so they shouldn't be griping... [;)] (I know, I used to be one!) Besides, who'd wish it on Logos to have to move away from that gorgeous state? I'm sure it helps keep them inspired and lowers their stress level so they can write good software for us.

Based on some of the wild statements about the high profits Logos is making on their sales, I would guess that Bob has decided to take a small portion of those profits and pay off the US National Debt, to keep the country going a few more years so that he can make even more money off us!!!
At least thats what I heard at dummies R us.
From a happy customer that is thankful for all the books Bob has made it possible for me to own, I can hardly wait to see what is really going on. If it is better than the last 12 months hold on everyone, it is going to be a great ride.
In Christ,
Jim

Richard!!! How could you bring yourself to speak such blasphemy?!?! "A flash in the pan?" Where is your Christianity, man?!? Have you not read Isa. 38:14 (NASB...far superior to ESV) which says "...so I twitter..."? I suppose I will have to pray for your soul...

Ha ha, that's pretty funny. I'll have to use that one. And I'll have to be sure to exclude the context to make the point, because if you read the rest of the verse it ruins the lovely defense of Twitter:
My eyes look wistfully to the heights;
O Lord, I am oppressed, be my security.T.S. Eliot also anticipated Twitter by a few decades, and also thought it would be oppressive, causing darkness:
“Not here / Not here the darkness, in this twittering world.” – T. S. Eliot, Four Quartets.

Very cool! I like the triangular structure of the building. May it be a blessing to all the employees, current and new, and thereby be a blessing to all of us users who have now become hopelessly addicted to Logos software. [;)]

One of the great things about this building is that it's been occupied by a large engineering firm for 20 years. (They remodeled it.) Their workstations are just like ours -- desk, chair, computer. Plenty of power and ethernet wiring. (Exposed overhead cable trays, in fact, and a large, open shaft the whole height of the building.)
So, with their kind cooperation (which they've been lending), we should have a very easy move-in.

Sounds like an ideal location for you. Are you totally vacation your old digs, or just expanding into this building?
I bet the view from your new office will be great, too. Google Street View isn't enough. We need Google View from the Top Floor! [:)]

We're in four separate buildings now; we'll move out of two and into the new one, and keep two of the existing ones (including the "entrance" building, with reception, etc.).
And yes, the view is pretty fantastic from above.
