Why the re-install?

I had to re-image my laptop because of some trojan ad-ware that got in there. Yesterday, I logged in as an administrator and re-installed Logos 6 (6 hours, it took).

Today, I've logged in as myself (non-admin). I copied the shortcut to my desktop, and when I opened Logos, it is trying to do a complete re-install.

???

Is there something in the software that won't let it run from a different Windows account? (Yes, I gave it admin permission to access the software). If not, how do I go about uninstalling the version on the Win admin account without harming the new install on the non-admin account?

(It's been "preparing your library" for over two hours, so I don't even know if it is working.)

Logos installs per-user, not per system. They'll be entirely separate installations, so you should be able to safely uninstall the one you don't want.

Don't uninstall the pre-requisites though. They're installed system-wide.

Mark is correct, Logos is installed per-user. One small clarification:

The Logos pre-requisites are no longer installed as of 6.3, so you don't need to worry about those. (I understand, old habits. [:)])

This is really starting to hack me off.

For the third day in a row, I'll be re-installing Logos. It takes all stinkin' day, and the laptop is useless while it is happening.

Since I learned about not installing on the admin account, I went ahead and installed it on my own account yesterday. But the install didn't complete and it wouldn't run. I deleted the incomplete install, and tried copying the 25MB folder from the admin account to my account to hopefully save on the long download.

Nope.

To save time just install Logos and copy the relevant folders from the Admin installation as per wiki Method 2.

Since I learned about not installing on the admin account

Logos 4, 5 and 6 have always been installed per user, unlike Libronix. They can be installed in any type of user account as they don't need Admin privileges per se (if needed you will get a UAC prompt for Admin password).

Now you're confusing privileges/permissions imposed by an installation as opposed to the installation itself needing Admin privilege to perform its function.

Logos 6.3+ got around the need for Admin privilege by embedding fonts within the application software, whereas previously you would get a UAC box to allow them to be added/changed in the Windows Fonts folder. You don't need admin privilege to delete the Logos shortcut.

No confusion, Dave. Whether the limitation is imposed by an installation or by by a privilege is irrelevant. I need an admin login to do anything, including deleting the Logos (or any other) shortcut.

Ummm. Wonder if this goes back to the trojan adware..., perhaps the re-image tool?? What version of Windows? At worse you may have to re-install Windows after securely erasing the drive.

Is your UAC set at default of "always notify" (from link to User Account Control settings in Control Panel >> User Accounts)?
