BUG - two computers download different files!

I have two computers running Beta 9. Prior to the updates downloading, their Resources files were identical.

After the updates completed, I ran Beyond Compare to see if the Resources folders were still the same. They are way different!

I included the attached HTML report file for you to see. The report just shows file differences. One computer is the left column, one is on the right.

Problems I see:

1. Some files have different file sizes, so they are different for sure;

2. Date/time stamps are different

3. In some cases just date/time are different

4. For the NPNFRC files, note one computer has lbxxlls files, and one has logos4 files! Same with SUMMAENG

The computer on the right has an install of Logos3 on it.

What happened, why is the resource download so different? That's not a confidence-builder...

I went into both and did an Update Resources. One on the left found no resources, one on the right is doing a second big upload. Which is odd, as it appears both sides have some old versions.

Wow - everything is identical again! Sorry for the fire drill. Other than the fact it went through two downloads on the one PC and is now doing its second indexing, it looks fine.

I bet I know why it downloaded twice - first time it got resources from the Logos 3 resources folder. That's why the GS_BSAC_* files had a later date for example. Now they are back to the October date, it downloaded ones from the L4 server.

This isn't quite right, is it? It seems to cause quite a stir when L3 is on the same computer as L4...

This has become somewhat of a disaster on my one PC. Logos 4 now constantly goes through a cycle of updating Galaxie files from L3, restart, update Galaxie files from L4 server, restart, and over again! It's in a vicious cycle. I guess I am going to have to stop it from reloading and just rename the L3 Resource folder until I need to run L3, otherwise this madness will continue forever.

I wanted to post this again as I originally had the versions switched, and I wanted to make sure there was no confusion based on my original erroneous post.

Further, I did another test just to be sure I hadn't complicated anything manually through Galaxie's web site. I went into the L3 resource folder, and deleted GS_BSAC_001.lbxlls. I then ran JTFTP to see what version it would download from the L3 ftp folder to my L3. It is 2009-12-05 T21:23:04Z.

So clearly, the L4 server has an older version on it than the L3 ftp server does, and this has been since December. This makes it very difficult for L3 and L4 to coexist on the same computer for anyone using Galaxie's resources that has the latest versions from the L3 server.

This is causing so much trouble, can Logos please fix this?

I've had this problem for some time now, although with a different Galaxie journal file. My solution was after everything was the way it was supposed to be, when Logos wanted to update a current "newer" copy of the resource with an "older" copy, I deleted it (older file) out of my download folder. Then I clicked on the Logos icon in the system tray that wanted to add new resources and of course there was now nothing to install. Everything stayed OK, and I have had to monitor it because it has tried to do it 3 or 4 times now over a period of a couple of months.

Nope, don't think so. It downloads an .lbxlls file. I have the same problem but I just left things as Logos4 wants it for now. And that is, to use the older file.

Like I said a while ago, I think it has something to do with the caps and non-caps resource id's.

Anyone with the same problem, just try this:

If you have e.g. GS_BSAC_001.lbxlls both old and new versions. Rename one of them e.g. GS_BSAC_001a.lbxlls

Put both files (the new and the old one) in the same resources folder of Libronix3

Start L3 and you'll see Bibliotheca Sacra volume 1 listed twice in your library.

If you go to remove duplicate resources, it will show you that there are no duplicates

No they are both lbxlls files. It sure seems as simple to me as updating the L4 server with the ftp server (why there are two souirces for files, instead of both mechanisms drawing from one source, is problematic in itself).

Henry, I tried a while ago changing the file names to match, and still had the same problem. As David Hooton suggested a while ago, I checked the version numbers of the files, as I noted above. The L4 server legitimately has an older version of the files than the L3 ftp server does

For now I just rename my L3 Resources folder so on updates etc. the L4 software won't scan it. Then I say #$$^%$%^$ to myself when I inadvertantly run L3 forgetting to rename the resources folder before I do [:(]

Sorry Dominick, I forgot to mention that the thing about renaming one of the files is just a test to check that those 2 files were indeed being seen as totally different files (caps & non-caps) from each other. It won't fix the problem.

On the other hand. If the newer files from Galaxie are renamed in the L3 folder, they will be brought into L4 with the changed names. L4 will download it's version also into its folder and you'll see duplicates in L4. (both the old and the new version will be in the library as separate books)

Since we published the Galaxie resources on the Logos 4 server, they were rebuilt (with lowercase IDs); I think the rebuilt versions were the ones on the latest TJL CDs, but I don't know for sure. This upper/lowercase ID discrepancy is causing the extra downloads. I've pulled the files from the Logos 4 server (which should stop the downloads); once we're sure we have the latest correct versions of the journal resource files, we'll publish them again. (Since they won't be "new" resources, this shouldn't cause any additional downloading, unless you're actually missing the resource.)
