indexer crash after L4 re-installation

when I start L4 I get the message: "Logos Bible Software is preparing your library (stage 1 of 3)." After a few seconds the indexer crashes and then the program opens,

I tried re-installing L4 and it got through "preparing your library (stage 2 of 3)," but after several minutes the "indexer has stopped working, Logos will shut down" message pops up. Now the program itself does not open and after the last crash it will not start the "preparing your library message;" I just get the "Logos will shut down" message immediately after trying to open the program.

FYI I replaced my old HD because my computer kept crashing for various reasons--usually either after a L4 or Microsoft update. Every time I shut the computer down (after it was running well) it would not start without several blue screen crashes. Last week all of my Microsoft products stopped working (Word, PP, Outlook, etc.). I finally got that resolved but then early last week after another crash I got the message "your computer cannot be automatically fixed."And now It will not turn on.

Since replacing my HD Thursday the computer works great. I can shut it down and when I re-boot it is ready to go. The only problem is that L4 will not work. I can't even start it to send my log files. I'm not sure what I should do and would appreciate any suggestions. I know one thing--I can sure empathize with those who have had similar experiences.

Why did you use the "rebuild index" command several times? Did the indexer crash each time?

The indexer log suggests you have a corrupt resource C:\Users\Daniel\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\xmxqvbii.wxf\ResourceManager\Resources\CSGNT.lbxclv, and I would have suggested deleting it and restarting L4. But since you re-installed did you have another 11 GB download? Is there an indexer log from the Stage 2 crash above? Can you restart L4 holding the Ctrl key? Produce logs if you can.

Yes, I did try using the "rebuild index" command and yes it did crash each time.

since you re-installed did you have another 11 GB download?

Yes, my download was 11.6 Gigs and no I do not have another indexer log from Stage 2 crash.

Can you restart L4 holding the Ctrl key?

I have not been able to start L4 holding down the Ctrl key.

I have not been able to be near the computer and check on it as often as I would like. Lots of hospital visits this week and a funeral tomorrow afternoon shortly after morning services. Usually I'd just use the computer at church but there is a construction project right outside my office door. I appreciate your input. It is encouraging to hear some feedback.

Dave, although the program will not open by holding down the Ctrl key; I rebooted and tried again. The program did not open but I it did produce this 70678.Logos4.log

Dan,

Go into your Index folder and delete the contents. The path is: C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\{random string}\LibraryIndex.

While is appears there may be a corrupt file as David points out, I'd try cleaning out the index folder and retrying. If that doesn't work go to the Resources folder and find the file David pointed out and delete it. Just to be sure I'd delete the one it would have processed next as seen below, then retry.

Thanks Mark. I just tried connecting again and this time the indexer started running saying "Preparing Library Stage 3 of 3." It crashed immediately but I do have these logs 6712.Logos4.log and 7801.Logos4Indexer.log

I see everything in the path except I have no folder labeled "LibraryIndex." I'll try searching for it.

That is strange, but if the Indexer never really got started it might not have created the folder.

As I said, if this fails, remove those two files (rename them or put them in another fodler) and try again.

I did have a librarycatalog file. I moved its contents to another location; deleted the files you suggested. So far the program has not crashed. . . it is in stage 2 of 3, but this is where it was last night before crashing.

It crashed again. That's funny I held down the Ctrl button when I started and the log in screen came up but no logs were generated. I'll try your suggestion to "Rename the file ResourceCollectionManager.db to something else."

This is unexpected as Daniel is using the latest 4.0a but there is a newer database schema during synchronisation as well as for ResourceCollectionManager.db, which it appeared to create OK in the L4 log.

I would save the \Resources folder, uninstall the Prerequisites and L4 in Control Panel, remove the \logos4 folder and install from Method 3 at http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers - this will save re-downloading 11 GB.

When this same exception has occurred before, it was caused by the program being uninstalled, without removing the Logos 4 folder, and an older version being reinstalled. This is not supported, as the Logos 4 databases are not designed to be backwards compatible.
