Bug: DBL Greek references for Strong incorrect

Hello Logos,

I think I found a bug in DBL Greek. If you hover your mouse over the Strong reference, it shows the DBL Greek reference instead of the Strong reference. Likewise, if you click on the Strong reference, it goes to the DBL Greek reference instead of the Strong reference. DBL Hebrew works as it should, DBL Greek does not. You can see what I mean in the attached picture. Note that hovering the mouse over the the Strong reference links to DBL Greek 3459, not Strong 3144. This is the case for many DBL Greek references to Strong.

I am using Logos 5.2b SR-11 (5.2.2.1672) . Thanks for your help.

what you found is a feature, not a bug. Since DBL is indexed according to several criteria, including Strongs numbers, it will open instead of Strongs when you follow a Strongs-numbered link elsewhere - assuming you have DBL higher prioritized as Strongs, which most people would do. Obviously it does not make much sense to follow a link to a Strongs number from DBL into DBL. You counter this by using 'Advanced Prioritization' in giving your favorite Strongs resource (e.g. ESL) a priority just for DBL.

I would have to differ as to whether this is a feature or a bug. The hoverquote (as you can see in the picture) has the text of DBL Greek, but says in the reference at the bottom right that it is Strong's. I understand what you say about priorities outside of DBL Greek (and agree with you), but inside DBL Greek the hoverquote should not function as it is functioning.

However I have done as you said, and it worked. Thanks!

I realized that my problem was as a result of two separate things. First of all, for some reason DBL Greek (with no prioritizations set at all for anything) for the Strongs numbers links to TDNT, not Strongs. TDNT seems to be prioritized, which is a bit strange in my opinion. To overcome this prioritization, I had to set the following advanced prioritization for Strongs "of this type" Greek's Strong Number "from this resource" DBL Greek.

Secondly, what I really wanted originally was simply to open DBL Greek instead of LN when I click on a Greek word in NA27. Thus I prioritized DBL Greek with advanced prioritization "from the resource" NA27. This was easier than following Mack's suggestion (to prioritize DBL Greek and add another prioritization for Strongs within DBL Greek).

So now with these two prioritizations, everything works as it should. DBL Greek opens from NA27, and within DBL Greek, Strongs opens Strongs, TDNT opens TDNT, and LN opens LN.

Thanks for your help, Mack. I still think it's not as clear as it should be, and that there's something buggy when the Strongs points to TDNT, but I'll let someone from Logos figure that out.

Default prioritization works at the resource level, so it seems that TDNT is prioritized higher than Strong's Lexicon for Greek words; which means that TDNT will also be used for Greek Strong's definitions! So Advanced Prioritization is necessary to overcome this. In my case

Strong's Lexicon ---> Greek Strong's Number

TDNT ---> TDNT

DBL Greek

which allows Strong's to be my #1 for Greek Strong's numbers, TDNT to be #1 for TDNT numbers and DBL Greek to be my #1 for Greek words

I have to do the same for Hebrew definitions e.g.

Strong's Lexicon ---> Hebrew Strong's Number

TWOT ---> TWOT

DBL Hebrew

I agree with you.

Let me try and explain why it works the way it does.

In the 1990s, when the DBL was first developed, it was considered a really useful feature that it would open when you clicked on a Strong's number or TDNT link, because it meant that people could usefully follow those links even if they didn't own Strongs or TDNT. It worked, because if you did own Strong's or TDNT then by default they would be prioritised first, and the links would go to them, too.

The problem only came in Logos 4, and only then when users changed the default prioritisation. In previous versions of Logos, you could only prioritise by datatype, so if you prioritised the DBL for Greek works, it wouldn't get prioritised for Strong's links. But in Logos 4, when a user prioritised a resource, it got prioritised for all datatypes. This makes it simpler (because you can prioritise without knowing about datatypes), but it doesn't work well for these really old resources that have multiple datatypes. Logos could fix it by changing the old resources, but they're reluctant to do that because some people have got used to the way it is, and changing it would mess up their prioritisation/workflow.
