Tyndale Commentaries 49 volumes high price

Hi All, I found the list price of "Tyndale Commentaries 49 volumes" by Logos is US$224.95 while the price listed by Wordsearchbible.com is US$99 only. If you were me, which one you will buy please? The Sales Representation of WordSearchbible gave me a big discount on their Wordsearch V11 too.

Hi Margaret, I'm sure that you are expecting to get responses that will be pro Logos so I won't disappoint you. I've been a faithful Logos user for a long time and continue to find it the best Bible software out there. As far as the Tyndale Commentaries are concerned they have often gone on sale in Logos in the past and I'm guessing that they will be on sale again in the future.

Hi Bruce, I did ask Logos representative , but the most they can give me was $179 which is still 80% more than the Wordsearchbible.com. Nowadays we have to spend our money carefully , not like in the past while we've better income la !

But I'm very disappointed this time !

Hi Margaret;

I am also a faithful Logos user. Not that I am unaware or unfamiliar with other Bible Study programs. At $179, I consider that a good price for the TCOT/NT when not on sale. As Bruce has pointed out, it probably will go on sale again from time to time at a lower cost. My thought are that, if I was just looking for the Tyndale Commentaries to read and study from by themselves, and had the money to buy them, I would go for the absolute lowest cost from wherever I could purchase them from. However, I like and am comfortable with the Logos system that links and tags my resources for searching during deep (or light) study, and this is the system I have invested in (which makes buying resources in any other system somewhat of a waste). In my opinion, Logos IS the best system out here.

I hope you can get it in Logos cheaper sooner than later.. Compared to the street price for a print edition of $540 the FL price seems reasonable. It is disappointing when two others are selling it for 99 but yet one other is selling it for 199 showing yet again that FL price is not unreasonable. Although I will admit I have no clue as to why publishers have seemingly decided to raise prices for older works. As this use to be fairly affordable in print but now it's pretty pricey for what it is.

Sorry Erwin, what do you mean by links and tags my resources please? I've never used anything like tags in Logos, I just search the keywords or exact bible verse to find the meaning and so I do not understand what you meant by deep study via tags ?

"FL" is an abbreviation some people use to refer to "Faithlife" the company that provides Logos (and other) software and resources

When I was on holiday in England this summer I visited two christian bookshop that were still selling the Libronix* edition of the Tyndale Commentaries on CD-ROM. I can't remember how much this set cost at the first bookshop I visited, but I think it was the retail price set by the publisher (around $200). At the second bookshop the Tyndale CD-ROM was on sale for "just" 80 pounds sterling, i.e. $120.

Connects a variety of resources together. The passage guide for instance. If I type in "Psalm 119:126", Logos will list all of my commentaries that speaks on Psalm 119:126. In the Tyndale Commentary for Psalms 73-150, there is listed Hosea 10:12. I can place the mouse over Hosea 10:12, and quickly see the wording of that passage in my preferred Bible. If I double-click on "cry" (in the commentary), the ISBE (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) is opened in another tab or pane.

Logos edition resources are "value added." When you buy a resource from Logos, you are paying the publisher for the resource AND Logos for the additional things added to the resource (hence "value added"). Additionally, you are paying for the continued development of the software, which is given away free of cost.

You will need to weigh your wants, needs with your budget. There are times where a kindle edition for a given resource goes REAL cheap. I may pick it up, but it isn't anywhere near as useful as a Logos edition. I would never pick up a kindle book for $9.99 over a Logos edition for $16. The savings, while significant, doesn't make up for the lack of functionality in the Kindle edition.

If some other software meets your needs and budget, by all means go that route! I have a number of resources which I would like but am waiting for a sale to come along which meets my budget. Personally, I would not consider picking up this set for $100 elsewhere because the lower price doesn't compensate for the lower functionality. I would, however, pick it up for $20.

I used the wrong terminology in my previous reply by stating "tag". I apologize for that.

To prevent confusing the explanation of "Tagging", I will keep my explanation of it brief and allow the more experienced Logos scholars to explain in detail.

For instance, the Tyndale Commentaries are tagged as "Bible Commentary", which will allow you to group and search all resources that are named (tagged) "Bible Commentary". You can also tag the commentary something like "My Favorite", which will allow you to do the same. Doing this, you can now search all resources with the tag "My Favorite" for a passage (or anything else).

Margaret, you've gotten some good replies already. I value the Tyndale set esp. for laypersons as the best out there in the price range. I bought mine many years ago in Logos format and paid $149. I don't recall seeing a price less than $179 in recent years, so that is a decent Logos price.

Whether to buy it in Logos or Wordsearch really depends on how you plan to use it. I personally dislike the Wordsearch layout and functionality, but if all you want to do is look up a passage and read it, Wordsearch will let you do that.

If you want to use all the features of Logos in conjunction with the commentary then you don't have too much choice but to pay the added cost for the Logos edition.

Not everyone is a logical Logos customer. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference. But Mark makes a good point...we shouldn't try to sell folks on something they don't need, assuming they really don't need (or want) it.

Thank you for everybody's opinion and teaching. Now I'll pay more attention to the passage guide, links and tag in Logos software when I'm using it but for the Tyndale commentaries , I still think that over 80% more by Logos is too much for me and I only just open the book and read it and so I've no need for the links and tags at all.

I really appreciate for all your help, thanks a lot, my Logos comrades.
