Can we assume that the two sad faces mean you have both of these already?

Thanks, everyone. We thought that with October and Reformation Day fast approaching, two books on Luther would not be amiss. [:)]

Reformation is always in season. Got 'em already but thanks still![8-|]

Feedback: happy about the noet offering, great and thank you very much. Thank you also, once again, for all the friday freebies we have received!
For this month's logos free book of the month, I am less enthusiastic than some of the responses above. I guess books on Luther's theology appeals more to those who are interested in historical or systematic theology and particularly for those for whom Reformed/Lutheran history is particularly important. For my part I prefer the commentaries and even some of the kinds of monographs that were offered before. I'd be disappointed if the next months offerings were on Calvin's, Edward's, or Aquinas' theologies.

There's been a nice balance in the books of the month, I think. So far in 2015 we've had:
- January: The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges: Genesis
- February: Justification Reconsidered: Rethinking a Pauline Theme
- March: 1 Corinthians (Augsburg Commentary)
- April: The Old Testament Library Series: Isaiah
- May: The Lord and His Prayer
- June: Esther: Evangelical Exegetical Commentary (EEC)
- July: 40 Questions about Christians and Biblical Law
- August: Paideia Commentaries on the New Testament: Acts
- September: Mentor Commentary: Amos
- October: Luther in English: The Influence of His Theology of Law and Gospel on Early English Evangelicals (1525-35)
So that's six commentaries and four monographs, with the commentaries covering diverse genres, and the monographs covering systematics, biblical theology and historical theology. There's a range of theological perspectives too.

I prefer it when the book is outside what I would generally purchase and read. It gives me a way to cheaply explore different territory without even feeling the necessity to finish the books (as I do when something is assigned or personally recommended).
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Indeed. It's been very helpful for me, as MJ points out it's great opportunity to explore offerings you might not otherwise. Hopefully many will take advantage of the Verbum offer this month that would not normally shop for those resources.

I am in a different place: I don't have time to muse through books I don't normally have use for. Either I have use for it or I don't. Whether I will five years from now is not an interesting reason to acquire a book especially compared to one that I know I am more likely to use.

Agreed. This is especially true of scholarly commentaries which may have a confessionally motivated slant but by and large remain scholarly work on the books of the Bible they discuss. In the course of my study on John for instance, I have used the commentaries by Raymond Brown (Anchor) and Francis Moloney's thee volumes and not only found them very useful and did not find an obvious confessional colouring. I found Moloney's Sacra Pagina commentary on John less helpful than his three volumes, but I still grabbed the two volumes from the series offered this month.

Please how is this "The Republic" being offered for $0.99 from NOET different from that in the Perseus Classic Collection?

I personally am thrilled by any quality free and discounted resources I can get every month. I may not always know when I will use it but it is still very nice to have.

It is the same text but generally the loeb collection volumes on noet are better quality than those in the Perseus collection. This applies to pagination, titles, and fonts.
