“Show word by word indicator” always in gray text

The option “show word by word indicator” below the “Read aloud” option is always a gray, and I guess that if it was in black, I’d have the option to check mark it or something so I can follow the text being read it as I hear it.  I am assuming this option give me the karaoke like option to see what the system narrator is actually reading at any moment.  

Is this “word by word” option supposed to work with the system narrator?  I’d like to have the system read some Bible Commentaries, which are unlikely to have audio versions.  Can I still have the karaoke-type of option with system narrators or I have a bug with my computer?

It works like that but not for System Narrator.

Where I can switch between narrators, that option always turns grey for System Narrator! But I can use System Narrator on commentaries, bibles, lexicons - if you can do this there is no bug.

No. The "system narrator" is computer generated from your operating system. The other "read aloud" is performed by Logos itself as an audio book.

Dave H., Yes I can use the read aloud option, but what I can't do is to have it followed by some mark or circle through the text, as a karaoke would do.  Thank you for your kind answer.

Alabama24, then if I understood you correctly, this option (the "word by word" follow up in the text along the oral reading) works only for audio book (pre-recorded readings by humans) but not for the computer narrator (basically a robot).  Thank you also for your answer.

Correct. The "robot" works from your operating system, whereas the "human" works from within Logos.
