Cannot selectively add News items to newsletter

After I add a News item to the newsletter, the X in the upper right corner of each newsfeed item appears to do nothing. And then, when I click Done, the content of the News block is apparently empty. I tried this in Windows 10 Edge browser and in Google Chrome, with the same results.
