Impact of purchasing pre-pub/community pricing bids on future purchase of base packages

I have a couple of items in pre-pub that are shipping in a week or so. Both of these are part of the new Orthodox base packages. I may decide to purchase the Gold or Silver package next year. I can wait for these resources.

One of these is a community pricing bid that I won, the other is a pre-pub.

So with dynamic pricing my assumption is that if I pay for a resource, say $40, and I purchased the base package that contained that resource it wouldn't be lowered by $40 dollars, probably something less.

I see that I will pay about $10 for the community pricing item. Does Logos take into account what one paid for a resource when doing dynamic pricing? If not, it would seem like you could purchase a bunch of community pricing resources that you think might end up in a future base package and run the numbers, buying those resources at the low price and having a greater impact on the eventual base package.

I might have to cancel the orders and wait for a chance to get the base packages.

Logos uses the MSRP percentages to find dynamic pricing, not what you paid. Basically, if a base package is worth $10,000 individually and costs $2000 and you own $5000 worth of resources, your cost is $1000. Buying resources for the dynamic discount only makes sense if the discount is steeper as a percentage than the base package discount would be. Since that basically never happens, you should probably cancel.

Bruce, Justin is right about items that are selling now for close to the post-sale or pre-pub price. Discounts are far greater with bigger packages so you stand to get the item for less in a large package.

The same cannot be said about Community Pricing, where your price will be so much lower than later pricing that you will not get it for less in a future package even with its larger than normal discount.

So most likely cancel the pre-pub but keep the CP item.

Just a thought to consider - the resources included in the base packages change when a new version of Logos is released, some stay and some are removed. So if it you are going to purchase a base package a couple years from now, the resource you have on prepub may or may not be included in the new base package. Unfortunately, we don't know when Logos 7 will be released or what resources will be included.
