"At Startup Open To....." What??

Under Tools->Utilities->Program Settings why do I have
"Most recent layout-Local"
and
"Most recent layout-Any"?

All I want is for the program to open to where I left it and so far it doesn't seem to want to do that. Do I have to save my layout every time I close the program? I had it set to "local" and apparently that wasn't right. Fortunately, I wrote down where I was and now I'm set to "Any".

I'm on a PC connected to a LAN and the internet. No other devices on my LAN run Logos.

The Local setting should open Logos back to the same place as when you closed it on that machine

That should work with the "Local" setting. I've just tested it and it did for me.

6.6 SR2 6.6.0.0069 - Windows 7 Pro.

Just the one machine. Right now it's the only computer on the LAN. This is a home environment.

It only misbehaved once, opening to the last saved layout. I'll set the option back to "local" and treat this as an isolated incident, trying to write down where I am in my study when I close until my confidence is restored.

If your last use of Logos ended in an abnormal way—crash? force quit? etc?—Logos will open with the last saved layout (or last successful termination).

We did recently have to reload the OS and all programs due to a failure of our liquid cooling system and subsequent failure of the motherboard. However, Logos had been behaving properly and, since I created this post, all has gone well with Logos.

I -try- to close all programs prior to resetting or shutting down my computer. That doesn't mean I always remember to close -all- programs.

It happened again. Admittedly, I restarted my computer without shutting down Logos first; something that rarely happens. However, when I restarted Logos, it opened to Galatians 4:22 in my study, not 4:28. Galatians 4:22 was where I started this morning. 4:28 was where I was when I restarted my computer. Not earth shaking because I remembered where I was, but at my age, things like where I was in a book are easily forgotten.

This doesn't seem like an earth shaking problem, however I've been using Logos for years and I don't recall having had this problem before. Just for info, I have the following resources open:

What did I do to prevent it, Dave? In all the years I've been using Logos, I surely must have rebooted or shut down the computer without first shutting down Logos once or twice.

I was thinking this might be a problem which has only recently cropped up, but who knows.

You have to close Logos before rebooting the computer, but I'm wondering why the layout isn't saved on a force close. Firefox saves its tabs for me!?

Dave, maybe we have a problem witn an OS setting. I'm running Win 7 pro here till I can upgrade to 10. Firefox acts the same way as Logos. If I don't close FF before shutting down or rebooting, the next time I restart FF tells me it has crashed and offering to restart using the last good profile. That's never been much of a problem, but with Logos, if I start the day studying MT 1:1 and spend all day on it, ending somewhere in MT 5. If I don't bother to save along the way and I don't remember to close Logos before shutting down Logos will restart at MT 1 causing me at age 77 to spend an hour trying to figure out exactly where I was.

So whaddaya think? Do I have a problem with Logos or with Win 7?

I have another desktop (Win 10) which I seldom use. It has Logos on it. I closed Logos on my main computer and started the Win 10 machine. When I started Logos, all windows came up at exactly the same place where I had left them on the Win 7 computer.

I then advanced my study in all windows to GA 6:1, one chapter ahead of where it was when I opened Logos. Then I left it sit there. After about five minutes I shut the computer down w'out bothering to close Logos. I restarted the computer and brought up Logos.

It started at GA 5. Could someone else try the same thing? Maybe this is expected behavior, but I never noticed it before.

Let's concentrate on Logos and ask FL why it doesn't save a layout on a force close.

Logos 6 needs time to save the layout, flush the data to disk, sync, etc. When you shut down Windows without closing Logos first, Windows will simply kill the Logos process (without giving it enough time to save all its data). Thus you run the risk of "losing" your last layout.

We strongly recommend closing Logos and letting it shut down (and sync) before restarting or turning off Windows.

So if one is unfortunate enough to have a power failure or a lock up and hasn't recently done a save, he is at the very least, inconvenienced.

Bringing up Firefox again, it apparently saves every change to the browser to a profile, so in the event of a crash or failure to kill the browser before rebooting or shutting down, you are given the option to go to the last known setting, which in my case, was exactly where I left it, even with nine tabs open. Okay, I won't mention Firefox again.

Dave, the lady in Logos customer support didn't seem to know the difference between "Most Recent Layout-Any" and "Most Recent Layout-Local". As a result, neither do I.

Thank you both for your help. I'll try to be more careful in the future.
