Unable to load Logos after engine update

I updated to the Logos 6 Core Engine last night. (I bought the Logos 5 several years ago). When I tried to load Logos this morning a message informed me that my current Mac OS (which is old) is not compatible/cannot run the new Logos core engine. A Logos salesman advised me to replace the old Core Engine rather than keep both. Can I reinstall the older core engine and use it until I update my Mac OS?

Strange - I thought it wouldn't load if the OS didn't support it.

What version of Mac OS are you running? Any reason you can't upgrade it?

You can - but you would need to complete remove the Logos app and associated resources from your system. I'll leave it to a Mac user to outline how to do that

HI Graham. I'm new to forums and don't know how to properly navigate them. As a result, although I've been looking for replies to my question since I wrote I only now figured out how to get to them [:)].

I'm currently using the Mac 10.8.5. And you're right, Logos would not load at all when I tried to load it using the new core engine. I definitely need to upgrade my Mac OS but I know I need to complete my backup first. I had been a little reluctant to upgrade due to problems I'd heard/read about but I think I need to go ahead and do this. In fact, I may have no choice now.

It sounds like I'll need to reinstall an older version of Logos if I go that route temporarily.

I am actually surprised it downloaded in the first place - I thought there were checks in place to prevent this happening.

https://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Troubleshooting#Uninstalling_Logos_4_Mac provides some guidance about completely removing Logos from a Mac platform. But I recommend waiting for a Mac user to comment / advise further before going ahead.

You can download Logos 5 from https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/install - but please note it is no longer supported by Logos. If you can do the OS upgrade without any problems that would be a good route to go down.

What did you hear? Mac OS upgrades are typically pain free. The biggest problem I have ever had was last year and related to wifi. You, however, haven't updated for (3?) years! Even with last year's problem, things were fixed after several months.

As for a backup... I would hate to advise you to skip it and update and have something go wrong. Of course, you <should> be backing up always. That is advice I don't always take and it bit me this year when a power surge wiped my hard drive. With that said, either bite the bullet and back up your drive, or go ahead and update. The gamble isn't that much bigger by updating.

DO you have only one Mac? If not, you might want to create a thumb drive installer to save on the large downloads.

One last question: Is the old app still in the trash can? If so, you could just move it back into place!

I would like to reiterate what Alabama said.

Yes you should have a constant backup in place and if you do not have recent one you should probably set it going overnight rather than waiting around during the working day.

Built into the Mac we have time-machine that is designed to make back-ups pain free and pretty much fool proof. I know it costs a few dollars to get a spare hard drive but it really is worth the money.

Your existing system is likely to be missing the latest security fixes that come with keeping your OS up to date – Apple are pretty good at fixing any leaks but users do have to do their part.

You don't say just how old your computer is but any thing later than 2007 should be capable of having the latest version of the OS installed.

Go for it Carl and having gone for it keep the thing up to date. It is the only way to operate safely on the internet these days.
