- Crashes caused by opening recently updated resources
Having had three interesting encounters with Technical Support, I am informed that 4.6.5 is not stable and I should give four days for it to be fixed. I have encountered numerous issues with this release. Had I known the problems I would encounter I would not have uploaded this version at this time. Take this as concerned advice to consider in your own decision and notice to those of you like me who have already swallowed the red pill.
Hi Beloved,
I checked your account and it appears you have 13,123 resources and a couple of thousand notes. An account of this size will cause a large library loading/indexing process followed by thousands of sync operations in the background (i.e. to sync the most recent position in every resource you've read, notes and highlights, etc).
Please keep in mind that the app will not work properly until after these background processes are complete. Even on a very fast device it might take 20-30 minutes for an account of this size but if your device is a bit older it might take and hour or two (or longer). If you open the Library during this time you will see a blue progress bar at the top of the panel - as long as that bar is there the app is not ready for use.Version 4.6.5 is stable and doesn't need to be fixed as far as I know; it is a hotfix release that solved a crash that thousands of customers had run into and also allowed hundreds of new resources to become available - resources that when opened would also crash Version 4.6.4. Those are the only two changes in 4.6.5.
Please report back if (after waiting a while) you see any further issues and we apologize for the poor experience you've had.
Kevin,
You are kind. Thank you for your detailed reply. In response I will wait patiently as this release is building the library on my old Kindle Fire HD.
