Touch screen advice

I've just inherited a Windows laptop with touch screen capabilities. I know Logos 6 isn't terribly touch-friendly at the moment, but I'd appreciate any advice more experienced touch-users could offer about making the best of L6 on a touchscreen.

Hi Mark. I've had a touchscreen laptop for a few weeks now.

For general use, the most important software is TouchMe. This facilitates various multitouch gestures, for the which the actions can be customized. I've found it most useful to set up Page Up/Down tippety-tap gestures---handy for reading PDFs, since Page Down requires two hands on my keyboard.

With respect to Paul, I've just had a quick look at touchmousepointer. It looks useful for a Windows tablet, but I'm not clear what it is going to add if you are on a laptop with a multitouch touchpad.

I find I use touchscreen now for most of my file management, starting apps etc.

In Logos, scrolling (particularly in original language resources) becomes a lot more precise and only needs one finger. In column view, page turns can be made by tapping anywhere on the left or right edge of the resource panel.

Scrollbars in the context menu and guides behave fairly sensibly when you tap on them, or they can be scrolled with one finger.

Most of the icons and menus are easy to tap on. The visual feedback (optional somewhere in Windows settings I think) to show where you have just tapped in useful.

These features (whether they came with the touchscreen or with upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10) also make navigation easier when I am accessing Logos remotely via Splashtop.

I haven't quite got the hang of selecting text accurately with touchscreen alone, especially on Splashtop. Selection handles would be a useful addition.

One little annoyance at the moment is that when I tap on a word in LDGNT (to view it in Information) I also often get a pop up for discourse features such as reported speech or circumstantial frames. I think it is interpreting me as hovering as well as tapping.

After trying a lot of things, I gave up and just use Logos in Desktop mode on my convertible laptop (A creature with it's own set of cool idiosyncrasies). Many touchscreen features such as scrolling work fine, Use a mouse for the rest.

I would be curious to know if the touchmousepointer offers any advantage in Win 10. I will give that a try.

Logos 6 is a dog of a programme for touch! I do not think that they are putting the resources in to developing it to be a touch-friendly programme.

In contrast, in WORDsearch I can touch scroll (touch & drag) the text to move up or down. Do not even talk about adjusting the font size! Can you even do it in Logos 6? In WORDsearch all I have to do to increase or decrease the font size is to put thumb and forefinger on the screen at the same time and either pinch to make font small or spread out to make it larger ... like you can on most other windows programmes.

It is about time Logos implemented standard touch abilities, instead of just thinking of ways to multiply their revenue take.

I don't know if the desktop applications will see touch UI optimally supported until Apple releases a new touchscreen Macintosh. Seems that Microsoft's initiatives no longer dominate development considerations at Faithlife - not saying this is a bad thing.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Paul's suggestion of touchmousepointer was the most useful, as I will sometimes use my laptop in tablet mode, and being able to control Logos using a mouse with onscreen touchpad will be useful in that scenario. Jonathan and Gao are right that scrolling through resources works in touch mode.

I think I understand why Logos works so poorly in touch mode - it's a mode that's used by only a tiny minority of customers, and even now we're unsure as to whether touch is the future, or just a fork in the road. And because Logos has tweaked so much of the display - for things like visual filters, etc. - it can't rely on the built in APIs that come with Windows 10 and provide functionality to simpler programs like WORDsearch.

Of course, I'd like to see Logos more usable on touch devices, but until more people are using them I guess Logos are right not to make it a priority.

Yes. But I still don't see why it would be such an imposition to set up a forum specifically for the ones who DO use touch screens. ... A place to share tricks and work-arounds.

Change to One column for reading; much easier to advance with finger.

If you highlight a lot, have a mouse.

I got a 2-in-1 (convertible) windows machine for the express purpose of using Logos in tablet mode (since ipad functionality is limited and can't do lookups if not online). I didn't realize Logos doesn't fully work in tablet mode on windows. I can't even select a guide from the "guides" menu when I'm in Windows Tablet mode Have to convert back to PC mode then click with touchpad; finger and stylus don't work; surely I have something wrong in my settings for a simple select to work.

Have any of you discovered any new workarounds?

I need to be able to do highlighting, command entering, note taking, lookups on original language words, using finger or stylus.

Often will use on a 3rd world bus so laptop mode not a great option for cramped legs.
