SUGGESTION: Support Community tags
In trying to assign biographic records to individuals that are presented by chapters or headwords in biographic resource, I've found a number of procedural issues.
1. When I am forced to use a topic rather than a biographic record, I'd like to request the biographic record and have my record marked as less than ideal.
2. When I am forced to use a Freebase record rather than a biographic record, I'd like to request the biographic record and have my record marked as less than ideal.
3. When I can find not match, I'd like a request for a biographic record and a note that I unsuccessfully attempted to add a record.
4. There appears to be a limit on the number of characters that can be selected and still have the add a community tag option show. In two cases the saints' names have exceeded this limit and I've had to play games to add the community tag. The concept of a limit is good but it must exceed the longest actual proper nouns being tagged.
5. I'm spending too much time creating notes as to what I have had to skip or skipped because I didn't trust the topic record or that I attached to a marginally appropriate record. If 1-3 above was done, then an option to scan my community tags in a resource would replace any need for notes.
6. I have run into a number of errors in the available community tags - including unintentional duplicates. There needs to be a better way to report the typos than opening Factbook and typing up a message.
7. In some cases, I have had to try several times before I can get the appropriate record to appear in the menu list for a particular person ... some I erroneously reported as missing. In some cases this is the result of event records or Bible records "shoving" the biographic records out of the mix ... even when there is an exact match. While the search algorithm still needs some work, being able to specific the type of record one wants - event, person, place etc. would significantly reduce the problem ... and perhaps also resolve the problem behind the most common error in community tags.
8. Alternative names need to be added more easily to the records. Perhaps as simple as a tool at Faithlife scanning for tagged text that does not match the tag ... often the case for alternative names.
