Portable Logos

I am currently running Logos on a Dell notebook windows computer. I would like to purchase a more portable device to use. In some cases I know it can get a little pricey. I would like some recommendations as to what devices you would recommend, a reasonable cost, and the features and specification I should look for. Thanks so much in advance for you insights.

That is a huge question that will get a variety of answers so this should be an interesting thread to watch. Do you want to stay in a PC environment?
My general perspective on this question is that most modern computers should run Logos fairly well. The only upgrade I would consider essential is to install a Solid State Drive (SSD) as this will greatly improve performance especially when Logos is indexing.

Thanks for your reply. I would like to get something that is completely portable and not necessarily in the Windows environment.

"Portable" can mean different things to different people. To me, it means a laptop with a 12-13 inch screen and that weighs 2-3 pounds (preferably as close to 2 pounds as possible).
Another piece of information that would be helpful is if you want a high resolution display.
The next piece of information we need is your budget. Both Windows and Apple laptops exist in this space in a range of prices.
The Macbook Airs are capable units with a lower resolution screen. They are portable. The new 12" Macbook is another option that is really portable, with a high resolution screen.
The new Dell XPS laptops have a 13-inch screen that fits into a 12-inch form factor. You can look for those at the Microsoft store.
Then there are the Microsoft Surface and Surface Pro models just announced. Both are hybrid devices, meaning they have detachable tablets. With the Surface, you get the keyboard. With the Surface Pro, it is extra.
These options are pricier. If you want lower-cost options, in the Windows world Lenovo makes decent laptops in the 11.6 and 13-inch range that are thin and light.

Thanks for your thought provoking questions and comments. Obviously this is a more complicated question that I was thinking it would be. I was looking for something smaller than a laptop. Something the size of a Kindle. As far as High resolution I really do not know what the effect will be with it or without it. Sorry for my lack of my technical answers to your questions. I was thinking of spending in the $150.00 range. Maybe I need to spend more than that.

iPad mini 2 (16 GB) at $269 new fits your desires... and I can highly recommend it.
Fire HD 8, 8" HD Display, Wi-Fi, 16 GB is only $169 is somewhat comparable device in you your price range. I have heard reasonably good feed back on them.

This is interesting.
I think everyone, at first, assumed that Ted wanted to run desktop Logos. Then Ted mentioned $150 and the size of a Kindle, and Dan made the reasonable assumption that the Android/iOS app was in mind.
The big question is: Will Ted be satisfied with the limitations of the smartphone/tablet apps?

https://www.logos.com/ipad might help him decide, he from there can switch to the Kindle one and see videos on both to let him have an idea if these MIGHT fit his solution. It of course is ideal for reading books and the Bible and some basic study.. less than ideal because original language study in Logos Mobile apps requires wifi....

Yes! That is the right question to ask.
For clarification: The mobile apps are NOT equivalent to the desktop app. The mobile app is great for reading and light study. It isn't a replacement for the desktop app. Many features require an internet connection. With that said, I think for extended reading and making highlights the mobile app is superior to the desktop app.

I agree. The mobile app is for reading and light study. For me to be happy running the full windows version of Logos, I require at least an i5 processor, 256 GB SSD hard drive, and 8 GB of RAM. Otherwise, I feel you still only have something that is adquate for reading and only light study. I believe most people will regret compromising on what it takes to run Logos well. It may save money, but it sets one up for frustration in the long run.
I highly recommend a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 or 4 that meets the above specifications. It will be all the computer or tablet that you will need to run full Logos.
If the mobile app is what you are looking for, it is hard to beat an iPad.

As I said I am not up on the latest technology. I thought that the mobile app would function the same as a desktop. Since I really wanted Logos to have full functioning maybe I will rethink going mobile. I will check, however, on the MS Mobile Pro 3 or 4. Thanks again for all the good responses.

Not even close; not in the same time zone.
And the mobile apps don't get the level of focus and development that the PC/Mac apps get. If you want what you have on your desktop, you need to constrain your thinking to devices that run the desktop software.
As for what all that includes, I don't know how small things get. You'll have to do some homework there.

There may be an acceptable 8 inch windows machine out there.... but i do not think you will find one in your price range. I went to eBay and saw a few windows tablets that are cheap but I am not sure if any would run Logos effectively.
-Dan
PS: Make sure any tablet is full windows and not RT... and you will need 4 GB of RAM to comfortably run Logos.

Here's what I would recommend. It handles Logos full desktop software at more than acceptable speed. The upgrade to Windows 10 is painless. The others are right. If you foresee doing anything above casual reading on a tablet type device, You simply must have Windows. I do have this same model tablet and am very satisfied with it.
