Confused notifications with Update Now - beta 9

I noticed this before but took a screen capture to report it tonight.

1. Type Update Now in the Command Bar.

2. Hit Enter

3. The notification 'checking for updates' appears in the URH corner as it should.

4. That notification finally disappears. I get a notice in the LRH corner 'No Updates Available/No updates were found', even though there is a blue Logos icon in my system tray that says 'Cancel Download' if I click on it. An update is being downloaded contrary to the notice in the LRH corner.

Why am I getting the notice on the right?

Most likely it checked for a software update and didn't find one, but a resource download had begun. A log file would be definitive.

I think the way it works is that once a download has begun it is already apart of the "downloaded" list thus the pop-up notification that says no updates available is saying there are no more updates to download.

Well, I guess there are others of us who are confused by the message. Maybe it needs to be changed, or maybe it shouldn't show at all?

I agree it is misleading, however if you saw the Logos icon in your system tray and if you moused over it and saw it was downloading, what is the point of typing in Update Now? Naturally if I see the taskbar Icon I check that first.

I typed 'Update Now' before anything started to download and before that message appeared. That is the first thing I did. In fact, how else would that message appear?

After doing this, I saw the notice that nothing had been found, knew that something was supposed to have been found, went to the system tray, saw the blue Logos icon, hovered over it and it told me I could cancel the download if I wanted to. That's when I did the screen capture.

So my point is that if you type Update Now and it finds an update, it gives the wrong message. Shouldn't the message be 'Update found and is being downloaded?' instead of 'No Update Found'?

Yes I agree with you it should notify the correct status of what is happening in all places that it can tell you about updates (notification, system tray, and program settings when auto-update is turned off) - in fact I have documented this issue in our database a month or so ago [:)]

Right, the devs still need to review how this case will work - there is another request for an update manager which would eliminate these issues altogether.
