In a future app to the Logos Desktop app, especially beneficial while Logos continues to work on the Logos Web App, it would be nice to have a feature that for new installations, people would have an option that allows them how to choose to access their books and datasets: download all or streaming. Download all would download and index the resources to one's hard drive exactly the way Logos works today. Streaming would simply "stream" the resources and pull the index from the "cloud" on demand.
One could choose to download (which would also index) individual resources for offline use, as well as one's personal documents could always be downloaded to ensure they can be accessed offline. One could even right-click on a layout and select "Cache for offline use" to allow ALL resources and media in the layout to be stored offline (for example, if one was preparing a lesson layout in Logos and knew they were presenting it somewhere without Internet access, they could cache just the resources and media in that layout offline to ensure they'd have full access to it).
Individual books could be deleted from the drive later while still streamed from the cloud, as well as layout caches could be flushed as well if need be.
The best experiment would probably be to test this out with Logos Cloud subscribers only first, then if it's successful, extend it general availability to all Logos customers (base package owners, etc.).
Hence it'd be a way that people could download the Logos Desktop app but still have all their resources stored "in the cloud".
One benefit I'd see to it is if my computer crashed and I needed to borrow a temporary machine. I could essentially throw the Logos Desktop app on it, sign in, and start using my books without having to wait for them all to download/index. Then sign out and remove the app when done.
Another option with "download all" is that one could start using Logos and have the books/index streaming while the books are being downloaded in the background, allowing new Logos users to jump in without having to wait for the download/index process.
Thanks!
