I want to up grade my logos 4 platinum to Portofolio, but now I see the pre-pub order of the Zondervan Bible reference Bundle(87 Vols.),I am woundering to decide,Which one could be the best choise?
Of course that depends on what you use Logos for.
What I would do is go through the resources in portfolio and ask yourself this question: Would I use this resource regularly? If yes, then find the cost of it by itself if it is sold that way. Add all of those up. Is it more than your upgrade price? Then Portfolio or any package upgrade would be a good investment. But if the answer is no, then you won't want to do it. Do the same for the Z materials.
Also be careful with the mentality that I find myself getting sucked into. The mentality of wanting more just because it is more. It is very tempting with a program like Logos to try to amass more books just to have more books. At least with physical books they look nice and impressive on the bookshelf in your office.
I personally could not justify either upgrade for the above reason. I will hopefully be adding a few of the resources that I really know I would use like Expositor's Bible Commentary and maybe another couple of books from Z.
For me personally I would much rather go with the Zondervan than the Portfolio (I don't need and don't foresee myself ever using Ugaritic...could be wrong) based on what I would get that would be new to my library. I'd say make a list of what you really want and would use and then compare. Like Kevin said, it would be different for different people.
What base package do you have? My comments are coming from one with the Platinum package, so the things I gain in Portfolio over Platinum aren't compelling enough to make me make the jump. But I would go with the Zondervan package if I had the money in a heartbeat (I'm a starving student right now).

I agree. I have Platinum and I still can see many resources in Zondervan Collection I would use regularly. In Portfolio there are many great books but it looks to me that I would not use them regularly. I can live without them. Of course that is just my point of view. You have to make your mind in that dilemma. But hey, isn't it a blessing you have that kind of problem? 2 great collections and you just hesitate which one you would need more. Looks terrific in both cases to me [:)]
Very salient and well put.

Yeah Kevin. Stop talking about me :-)
I have no idea about the Greek language,my English is also not enough, but it is encouraging I am learning form time to time, this makes me glad and you in forum are making a difference in me.I can say you yourself are the best of my resources.Thank you for this.
Lets come to the point I am responsible for Bible study groups to let them discover the truth by themselves ,by discovering the truth formyself first. In this case it is true Iconfess I always like to have the best and the quality one.But now I feel helpless standing infront of two trees to climb as the same time.and I do*nt want to do that .by introducing my needs first I want you to dicide with me.I am vey grateful for your help ,I am writting this being nine hours flight a way from you ,but it is very interesting that I coud have been helped by you,Isn't it great to be members of the Body of Christ , that nothing can hinder us.I just praise the Lord from the bottom of my heart .
I like always more dictinaries, encyclop any in these type which can explain me the meaning and the thought of the text.
Then I think you would get more use out of the new Zondervanresources.
The books added in the Platinum to Portfolio upgrade aremore specialized and technical, but the Zondervan books are moregeneral reference types. All of the Zondervan books (commentaries, dictionaries, and encyclopedias) will be useful for understanding "the meaning and the thought of the text".

I too would find more dictionaries and encyclopedias more useful than the differences between Platinum and Portfolio. I upgraded to Portfolio (from Scholar's Gold) a while back and while I feel good having some of those extra resources, and can use them to help other people occasionally, I wouldn't say I really needed them.
I like the metaphor you used of standing in front of two trees and trying to decide which one to climb. But do you have to climb either one of them? Maybe sometimes it's best to keep walking straight ahead on the ground. From the top of a tree you can see a long distance, but you don't get anywhere. You're stuck there. (Maybe I'm pressing the analogy too far.) The point is, we can all easily fall into the lust for more resources (I do it all the time) and use that as an excuse for not getting down to study with the resources we already have. If you have unlimited funds, then yes, I'd go ahead and upgrade or buy the Zondervan bundle. But it could be that the money would be put to better use elsewhere in your life, or sharing with someone else in need. Maybe help out a poor pastor you know who can't afford to have ANY version of Logos.
Thank you all of you,it has taken me a lot of hours looking up to the hight of the trees,Now I have come to the point to climb wisely to one of them, but to stop looking on another tree. I have to watch out for my own potofolio not the Logos' Portofolio. So I choose the Zondervan resources.
God bless you!
I have a feeling that there are a LOT of people who share that mentality. I have the Bible Study with a number of packages added as well as some individual items. I have more than I'll ever be able to read in my Bible Study software as well as print Christian Fiction books, and yet I find myself starting to order something else of course by a favorite author or publisher. Available financial resources makes me stop and think very carefully.
