I just noticed that all of my collections are gone. Does this have anything to do with deleting Updates.db and DownloadManager.db as I was told to do to try to solve another problem?
There was also instructions to delete the LibraryCatalog directory, which I did.
David, when you sync with your online account your collections should reappear. Are you using L4 offline?
Michael,
I use it offline.I don't think I have ever synched.
I believe your collections are stored in a folder called 'ResourceCollectionManager'. Do you still have that folder?
If you never let Logos 4 sync with the Logos server, then if you deleted your collection file it may still be in your recylce bin and can be recovered.
In the future I would encourage you to let your system sync with Logos at least occasionally. If you are normally online all you need to do is click on the sync icon in the URH corner and it will do a one time sync.
Let us know what files you deleted. If you can't remember, look in the recycle bin.
The folder you mention is there, and a .db file is inside it. There is nothing in the Recycle Bin. I believe L4 overwrote my collection .db file when I followed the instructions in an attempt to correct my not receiving updates, because a message appeared stating it was configuring my system when I restarted L4. I believe I was given the wrong advice.

Well, I am sorry for this. Once you rebuild your collections (no fun, I know), sync with the Logos server and at least there will be a copy there as a backup.
No big deal. The collections are easy to put back in. At least my tags weren't deleted.
We do need to figure out why I'm not receiving updates, though.
What do you mean?
Actually some of my tags have been deleted. I noticed today when I was using a commentary and went to parallel resources and there were none - because some of my tags (and therefore my collections - all based on my tagging) for that particular commentary were gone. The strange thing (to provide one example) is that the UBS Handbooks were all tagged together and now only one UBS Handbook is tagged as such and all the other volumes are no longer tagged.
I back up my files daily and was told by Logos technical support to delete user files in the documents folder and restore with a set of files from yesterday when my tags were intact.
I tried that but ended up not being able to start Logos even with the blank layout option. So I copied back my files from today (I had made a copy before overwriting with yesterday's versions), rebooted my machine, started with a blank layout and finally got back in.
Question: How do I restore tags? I've tried syncing with the online service and that doesn't help - presumably my latest copy online has the version of my settings with missing tags. Anyone know which file(s) I need to replace? And can I replace those files with ones from yesterday or the day before without ending up with Logos being unable to load?
Trust this is clear.
I've been lurking for a long time and appreciate all the help I've seen people provide in these forums. I am a committed Logos user (just spent a ton of money on upgrades and new resources) and love Logos 4, but I was terribly disappointed when "technical support" told me to use the forums to find the answer and even the technical support supervisor didn't know how the file system worked - which file(s) was linked to tagging and whether it could be copied over without causing Logos to crash.
Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide!
The updates mentioned in this sticky post - Resource download (up to 194.91 MB) coming tonight (2010-2-11).
I'm not receiving any updates when I type Update Now. I should at least receive the updates for the Amarna Letters and Targums. But they're not updating for some reason. For example, this is the latest I have for Targum Psalms:
LLS:CALTGPS2009-10-28T18:59:44ZCALTGPS.logos4
According to that sticky post I should have:
LLS:CALTGPS, 2010-01-18T18:22:14Z, CALTGPS.logos4
We do need to figure out why I'm not receiving updates, though. What do you mean?
For resource updates you need to type Update Resources. Update Now looks for updates to the program not the resources.
No difference. Still no updates. btw, can you direct me to a list that shows all of these commands?
Question: How do I restore tags?
I believe that your tagging information is incorporated into a database with all your other Library information here:
C:\Users\{User Name}\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\{Random String}\LibraryCatalog
It is possible it is here:
C:\Users\{User Name}\AppData\Local\Logos4\Documents\{Random String}\LibraryCatalog
but I don't think so. It is unfortunate that Logos has not let us know what file contains what information.
Regardless, which file or files did you delete?
can I replace those files with ones from yesterday or the day before without ending up with Logos being unable to load?
Good question, but if you simply change the name of the current file and copy in the backed-up copy, you can always return your system to how it is now if that creates a problem.
I back up my files daily
Is there a reason you've been doing this rather than relying on the Logos server to act as your back-up? Just curious.
No difference. Still no updates.
Some of us have found that closing Logos 4 and reopening it triggers an update when other methods fail. No one seems to know why.
can you direct me to a list that shows all of these commands?
Click on the Wiki link at the top of this web page. You'll see on that page a link to the Logos 4 Commands page. Take some time to browse the wiki. There is a lot of information there provided primarily by users.
