Verbum 6, Dell Venue 8 Pro, and Windows 10

I recently picked up from eBay a Dell Venue 8 Pro (64GB) with case and stylus that was already upgraded to Windows 10. I had one of those Dells before, but sold it some time ago. However, getting it with Windows 10 is a pleasant surprise. Maybe it's the placebo effect, but the Dell in general - and Verbum in particular - seem to perform a little better with Windows 10 than they did with Windows 8.1.  The Dell won't make the Surface Pros quake in their pixels, but it's more than adequate for running Verbum/Logos. So, if anyone has a Dell that they use for Verbum/Logos, you won't regret the Windows 10 upgrade.  The Dell will not replace your laptop or desktop, but it's a good portable solution for the desktop version of Verbum/Logos.

A couple of helpful hints from my experience thus far:

1) If you want to access the touch keyboard, then right-click (or long press) the task bar and select Show Touch Keyboard Button. Then you get the keyboard icon on the task bar, and can access it as needed.

2) Don't run Logos/Verbum when you have Windows in tablet mode. For some reason, tablet mode doesn't play nice with Layouts. When I choose one of my layouts in tablet mode, all I then see of my Verbum screen is a little rectangle in the lower left of the screen. If Windows is in desktop mode, no problem. Searches and passage guides seem to run a little quicker in Windows 10 than they did in Windows 8.1.

3) Others have said this before, but I'll repeat it here. You'll want Touch Mouse Pointer. It's free, and once you get the hang of it, it's a great mouse substitute. I haven't experimented with the Dell stylus yet, but that's next on my agenda.

If anyone else has experiences with the Del, Logos/Verbuml and Windows 10, feel free to share them here.

I bought a recon version of Dell Venue 8 Pro 64 GB and have clean install of Win 10 (after an upgrade to the Win8) and can confirm your comments. If you want/need a 'real' mouse I can recommend the Bluetooth Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Mouse  (that is Amazon UK) as it will even work on trousers (!) and does not need/use a separate receiver to be plugged into the Dell which would make it a no no.

I opted for a clean install to reduce the size of the Win10 installation as much as possible. Logos is in the system drive and I have installed MS Office (and odd utilities) on the micro card as it does not really need speed most of the time. I also keep the WiFi drivers there as there is an occasional glitch with the WiFi that is cured in a few seconds just by re-installing them.

This set-up gives me 13GB free on the system drive. My Logos6 folder on my desktop is 33.6GB in size whereas on my Dell it is only about 26GB for some reason.

The main problems of operation are due to Logos not being designed for touch screen use (hence common also to the the Surface Pro) and nothing to do with the Dell. For backup I created a Macrium bootable flash drive before I began upgrading to Win10 and created/restored backups from that when needed.
