Link Thayer's to Strong's numbers

I recently purchased Thayer's lexicon and thought there would be some automatic reference between it and Strong's numbers, so that by clicking a Strong's number in an interlinear view, it could automatically pull up the associated Greek word in Thayers. However, I don't see Strong's numbers in Thayers so I'm guessing this is not doable. Is this the case?

I purchased the Louw-Nida lexicon and an automatic reference was identified by Logos so that now when clicking on Louw Nida interlinear numbers, I am automatically taken to its lexicon. Clearly, I'm just a beginner at trying to understand English-Greek interlinear, lexicons, senses, etc. Any pointers to help me get a better grasp of interlinears, lexicons, number systems, Logos "senses" would be appreciated - I'm especially keen on trying to understand which tool to use to find which definition of a Greek word is used by translators in any given context (of course there is a range of meaning, but I'd like to know why translators have selected a specific definition from the range. Is Louw Nida best for this?).

Hey Lance,

I am sure someone else will chime in with a  longer and more useful answer to your question. But  the short answer is Louw Nida is my go to lexicon for finding the nuances of a word. It really works well when it is prioritized as the top lexicon in your library. I would also use the compare translation tool as well.

If you look at its Information page ( i icon) in Logos and scroll down to the heading INDEXES you will see "Greek Strong's Number" if it is linked to Strong's numbers. From your description this won't exist, so it is definitely not doable.

Enhanced Strong's Lexicon or Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Greek (DBL Greek) have links to Strong's numbers, but which one is used depends on how you prioritise your lexicons. AFAIK Louw Nida numbers will only link to the Louw-Nida lexicon even though they appear in the DBL Greek lexicon (for example), so prioritisation is not necessary.

If you're interested in looking at word senses, I strongly suggest you look at the dataset documentation for the Bible Sense Lexicon. We created the Bible Sense Lexicon specifically to address needs like this, and it's a unique resource.

To specifically address translation issues and decisions, the best overall resource is probably the UBS Handbook Series New Testament.: it was developed specifically for this purpose. This may be overkill for your current level of interest though. You can get started with a workflow like this:

1. Make sure the Senses line is turned on

2. Click on the link to display the Bible Sense Lexicon page for the sense ("assistance" in this example)

3. If you want to see the range of possibilities for a source language word that expresses this sense, click the word to go to Bible Word Study (circled for this example). Here you can see the most frequency sense of διακονία is "role ⇔ ministry", but other senses are possible as well depending on context.
