The 6.9 beta 1 release notes have this comment: "Removed the dependency on BITS for downloading resources and program updates."
I'm pleased with that direction, given the number of problems folks (including me) have encountered of late (seemed to be coincident with the original Windows 8 release to me).
I'm wondering if Faithlife could elaborate on how they've implemented the replacement. The one thing that BITS did well, IMO, was throttle background network usage (e.g. for Windows updates, or Logos downloads) when the PC was being actively used. You basically couldn't detect background network activity interfering with even high-bandwidth activity while working at the keyboard. That was extremely helpful, especially with low bandwidth / low reliability connections - I didn't have to micromanage what was using my internet connection.
So does the replacement have that intelligence? Also, can it pick up in the face of a system shutdown without having to start a particular download from the beginning?
Thanks much,
Donnie
