Logos 4 "has stopped working" message

I brought logos 4 two weeks ago and I used it only few times due to this ongoing problem.

I talked Tech supports couple times and they couldn't fix it.

When I hold down "ctrl," it usually opened. However, it does not work at all now.

Could you someone help me out please? otherwise, I will refund logos 4.

I talked to technical support yesterday about this on my computer. It is a bug they know about and will be fixing it. To get Logos 4 back again, hold Ctrl down and click on Logost 4 to start. When the dialogue box comes up, enter your login information and click the blank screen box and then go. When you get the blank screen up type "rebuild index" in the command line box and hit enter. This will rebuild your index and get Logos back working. Though you will have to wait for the indexing, so do this when you can stepo away from your computer. Hope this helps. It worked for me.

If you have not yet gone on to step two on the WIKI ("Holding down the CTRL key doesn't work..."), try that and see if that will help you at least get to the point of getting and posting a log file.

If you follow the steps there, and then attempt to run Logos4, you should find a log file. The article tells you where to find them on your computer. Then post the log file on this forum (there's a link in that article to another WIKI about how to do that, if you don't know).

If you don't find a log file, make sure you have either run the script file, or manually edited your registry. If you have done that and you still don't have a log file in your Documents/Logos Log Files/ folder, or if that folder doesn't exist after enabling logging (by running the script, or editing the registry), try restarting Windows, and then try to run Logos4 again. If you find log files after that procedure, post them here. If you still don't please report back.

Your error is happening quite quickly. It looks like a problem with displaying a clippings file, but I'm not smart enough to know whether the problem is with the clipping file itself, or with your computer's ability to display it.

I'm suspicious of a line that says: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'System.Windows.Documents.Block' threw an exception. ---> System.ArithmeticException: Overflow or underflow in the arithmetic operation.

This suggests a hardware problem, but I'd hate to speculate. It could also be a bad file, or a corrupt installation.

Would you please post your system specifications: CPU, amount of RAM, version of Windows, amount of free HDD space, Video Card type, and amount of Video RAM (and whether this is dedicated or integrated video RAM ).

I am also putting a tag here for tech support to look at this.

CPU: intel cole 2 due u9300 1.2 Ghz

RAM: 3g

Hard Drive: 64g ssd (5g free space after installed logos 4)

Operation system: windows 7 (32 bit)

Sorry I don't know how to find video card ram

Based on Google results for this error*, it seems likely that this problem is caused by another application on the system, which is leaving the "floating point unit" of the CPU in an inconsistent state. What anti-virus or firewall programs do you have installed? Have you run a scan to make sure there's no hidden malware installed on your computer?

Karl, to get more prompt attention it is best to start a new thread if you have technical problems. This is especially true since it looks like you don't have the same issue as the OP, Joseph. The error in your log file: "Error OurApp Unhandled exception:
System.InvalidOperationException: Error reading postings. Document id
out of range" is caused by a corrupt index. The way to fix this is to
make a new index.

If you can get Logos started type "rebuild index" into the command
line and hit enter (no quotes).

If you cannot start Logos, delete the contents of this folder:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\<random>\LibraryIndex
and then start Logos, it will see that it doesn't have an index and
then will begin to build a new one.[Note: the AppData folder is hidden
so you will have to enable the viewing of hidden files and folders to
navigate to this folder.]

I was so happy last two days because it works after I uninstalled some firewall programs.

However, it opens but get crash when I search something.

There is a lot of debug statements in the log, but no crash - I haven't come across this before so I'll leave for a Logos tech to handle.

Hang in there, Joseph! If you get another crash wait a minute before closing L4, upload the log and state exactly what you were doing at the time.

I dont know if you have the beta version. But I had the same problem, I reinstalled beta and now mine is working fine. I just ran the setup found on this forum

http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/InstallerBeta/Logos4Setup.exe and its fixed. I dont know if that is the proper solution, but it worked for me.

Have you been OK running Beta 12 prior to the download? How did you install the beta?

Dang... Tech support had tried to convert my beta back to 4.0a. So they ended up unistalling beta. Then I personally reinstalled beta last night. I took a while for it to get set back up, but it is working now for me. Maybe they will come out with a new update tonight, then you dont have to do that.

The problem appears to be due to bad metadata - see Bradley Grainger at http://community.logos.com/forums/p/12836/100743.aspx#100743

Try starting L4 now. If not successful rename your LibraryCatalog\catalog.db and KeyLinkManager\keylinkmanager.db files and start L4 (you can revert to the original files if you rename them eg. catalog.old).

The path to these folders is C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\bhv4dmo0.f0t\ (use Control Panel | Folder Options to View hidden files and folders).
