Logos Search Frustrations

So, I am posting here in hopes of getting a little help. I'm having two major problems with my searches. I have Logos 6 Platinum, Logos Now, and a number of other resources on Logos, Vyrso and Noet. I assume a lot of my frustrations are my own error, but I'm hardly new to Logos. I took a class on it in Seminary and all that. Anyway,

1) I have repeated problems with finding headings and I'm sure this is my own error. For instance, I'm trying to find an article on the Galatian Heresy (aka Galatian Controversy). Intuitively, I tried both searches in quotes and found countless references, but no full articles. So, I tried searching for heading and large text. This turned up no results for either search. I tried Galatian AND Controversy. That turned up a couple of unhelpful articles.

Am I to believe that in all of my theologies, dictionaries, and encyclopedias, that I just don't have an article about it? That's possible, but I have had this problem with other searches too. For example, "Premillennial dispensationalism" turns up zero results for large and heading text. I know I own 4 views on the millennium, so I'm shocked that none of the articles show up.

Any help would be very much appreciated. I feel like I own a ton of resources I can't use because I'm not intuitive to know what/how to search.

2) Like many millennials, I am a notoriously pathetic speller. I guess between google and ms office, I've been spoiled. My question is, why doesn't logos have a spell check and a 'Do you mean...' function for searches?...or does it?

Sorry to not be of a lot of help here. But, I feel exactly the same you do. Ive had Logos since the last few months of 3, and have been annoyed by the way the search works. I have found it so much easier to simply Google stuff Im looking for.

Open Search select basic, select all resources and type galatian NEAR controversy as shown below:

To limit to articles change the "all text" in John's screen shot to "Heading text, large text" options under Search Fields.

I tried a modification of John's search—galatian NEAR (controversy,heresy)—but could only find three articles with that criteria in the heading, and one was a review of another hit. That article concerned the rhetoric of the controversy, not the controversy itself. The remaining hit was a review of an article in a journal not available in Logos—The Indian Journal of Theology.

For example, "Premillennial dispensationalism" turns up zero results for large and heading text.

Perhaps you should change the search quotation to "Dispensational premillennialism" which is a more accurate term. However, I dd not find much in Heading or Large Text for that topic—even in the Master Journal bundle. Since almost all dispensationalists are also premillenial, you should look into the writings of some of the leading dispensational theologians.

Although I can find multiple articles where these topics are discussed, it would appear that no one has written articles specifically on the topics you mentioned in your original post.

If that doesn't get you what you want, adjust the number up.

As you type a word the Search function will provide auto-complete suggestions (not the same as a spell checker, but at least you know if the word is in your Library). It doesn't guarantee that the phrase "dispensational premillennialism" is in your Library, particularly if you restrict it to Heading Text, but that is why you search!

Dave, will the Rose resources provide reliable search results, such as headword searching, since they are Vyrso resources?

The results I got came from Large Text, which is provided by the Logos Indexer, and are basic articles. It does not have headwords.

Noticed Bible Dictionary mentioned council so searched for:

Galatian NEAR (controversy, heresy, council)

with match all word forms checked, which allowed Galatians to be found

For example, "Premillennial dispensationalism" turns up zero results for large and heading text.

Suggest searching premilliennial NEAR dispensationalism

Sometimes, Title can have useful results: e.g. Dispensational Premillennialism within "Schools of Interpretation" in The ESV Study Bible.

FYI: without quotes, internet search engines look for proximity of search terms with tendency to rank results higher for terms found closer together (unless search behavior has modifications to influence advertising placement). Internet search engines have millions of web pages indexed. Apologies: larger libraries in Logos tend to have more results (along with wallet crying [:'(] when looking at order history total).
