Hi there

I was wondering if there's a guide to write good sermon outlines

I and others have created a Reading List for preaching.

There's a section there on "Sermon Preparation", which includes several books that have chapters which will help you.

This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

The three resources that I have used have helped me the most are-

Wayne McDill, "The 12 Essential resources for Great Preaching" https://www.logos.com/product/16055/the-12-essential-skills-for-great-preaching

John Fallahee, "How to Prepare and Improve a Sermon", www.learnlogos.com

Morris Proctor, "The I-Beam of Message Building", www.mpseminars.com

Morris and Fallahee are ok but videos are too expensive. Unless Loni had something else in mind, the links he provided point to nothing specific only to the general website, and when I search on preaching webinars the only one showing up has 10 lessons and is $350 bucks. Same with Proctor page, though the I-BEAM manual is $19.95 in my opinion, his explanation is too tedious and is not necessarily on outlining is more on "His" process on how to study to prepare an expository sermon. There are more practical books out there, but truth be told all of them have their own method of outlining so you're going to have to go through the work of deciding which "method" best suits you. I like to keep it simple:

    Title

    Introduction

    I. Point one (write whatever you want to say about point 1)

    II. Point two """"

    III. Point three """"

    Conclusion

Of course, this works for me, but maybe not for you. The point, you choose how complicated you want to make it (just my opinion).

    blessings,

Ps. Are you a layperson or a minister or a student? - maybe that can help everybody point you in a better direction, though Mark has already started by  giving you a list of books,  but then again you will have to read all of them  or a couple to see if one of them catches your attention. Sorry for rambling too much.

    Hi

Thanks for responding.  I'm a minister and want to improve on outlines.
