Why should you care about this collection:
1. These are classics to start with. They are part of general culture. Biographies will give you a sense of who ancient famous people were. They are readable and entertaining to read.
2. These are biographies that circulated in the Roman Empire at the time the Gospels were written. A number of scholars see parallels. Do you agree? You need to read them to know. If there are parallels, do they shed light on how to read the Gospels in their historical context? Do they explain some features of the biblical texts that we could misunderstand as we read them from our own cultural vantage point?
3. If you are doing or dreaming of doing advanced studies, such as a PhD, you must read those sooner or later.
