Using Text Comparison

In yesterday's Logos Blog entitled "A Simple Trick for the Observation Stage of Your Bible Study", Morris Proctor described how to use the text comparison tool. Close to the end of the article he talks about using the "show differences" icon to individually compare all the Bibles in the list to the first one which is the Base Text.

My question: Is there any way to change the Base Text or are you stuck with the first one in the collection?

I would prefer to use the ESV as my base text but there is no apparent way to do that other than to delete all of the Bibles in my collection that come before the ESV or to enter a list of Bibles (which defeats the purpose of using a Collection).

Is my conclusion correct?

My solution is as follows:

If I want to compare to ESV, then the enter in the comparison box would be ESV, English Compare

English Compare would have all the English Bibles I want to compare except for the ESV.

For original languages you could use something like: NA28, Greek Compare where the Greek Compare would have your chosen Greek texts for comparison.

This does not seem to work.

I enter ESV, Bible Compare and when I press "Enter", Logos 6 deletes ESV and leaves me with Bible Compare.

Tried it a few different ways and can't get it to work.

Don't know why it's not working for you. You should be able to enter for example: kjv, niv, esv hit enter and have those text in your comparison. Does that work?

After trying this probably 20 times or more, it finally stuck... so it does work as your solution indicated.

What I don't understand is why on the first 20 or so attempts, it wouldn't work (Logos deleted the ESV reference and just left me with the English Bible collection that I had put together - not all English Bibles but just the ones i wanted to compare).

I thought initially it was because the ESV was originally included in my English Bible collection so I deleted it but that still didn't help.

I restarted Logos several times and rebooted my computer as well without being able to duplicate your solution.

When I restarted Logos this morning and tried it again, it worked... on the second try... Bizarre.

That's what I did... from the start. But it still didn't work.

As I said, after trying it a multitude of times, it finally stuck.

here is a little Trick that I just found out today. Change the Title of your Bibles you have in your Collection and put a Number in Front, so you have a sorted Collection...and a sorted TC

Yes I have numbers in my titles

It allows you to arrange the order of bibles. Priority does not always work and I think is limited to your top 5 bibles

Yes I have numbers in my titles

It allows you to arrange the order of bibles.

One idea for numbers in short and long titles is year revised so Text Comparison sorting becomes chronological

Text Comparison also works with original language: e.g. compare NA28 with a collection.

John, that exception is actually not necessary. The tool is smart enough to not include ESV the second time if it's been indicated by a previous collection or entry. I have a collection called "English Bibles (comparative)" which includes all the bibles I wish to (commonly) compare. If (usually) I want to focus one or more versions primarily, I simply insert those names in front of the collection name.
